In 1775, when Pennsylvania became a United States state, Whitehall was one of several towns that voted to become part of Princeton Township (now Kensington). In 1827, Whitehall Townshipwas divided into two parts: East Whitehall Township became West Whiteland Township while North Whiteland Township became South Whiteland Township. The following year, an act was passed annexing portions of Berks and Lebanon counties which had been part of East Whiteland Township. Additionally, Mount Joy Borough (now Altoona) was annexed from West Whiteland township in 1829. In 1849-1850 during the Mexican–American War (1846-48), many citizens from around York County assembled at White Hall for military duty; they were joined by others from nearby communities such as Allentown and Bethlehem who also volunteered for service. Many homes were destroyed or damaged during this time period as troops fought through York County and beyond against Mexico’s forces including at Monaghan Hill where Battlefields National Battlefield Park stands today. Due to increased immigration over time it has been estimated that Whiteshall may have reached its peak population numbering 2200 residents in 1905 but since then its population has gradually declined although there are some recent estimates indicating that there may be upwards of 1500 residents living within the limits of present day White Hall Borough/Township

The first settler in what would become Whitehall was Nicholas Lewin who arrived in 1753. He married Susannah Sutter and built the first store on the site of today's Whitehall Township. TheLewins were followed by other settlers including James Forbes who arrived in 1755 and erected a gristmill on the Swartz Creek watershed near present-day Beaver Falls. In 1802, John Duryea laid out a road from Greenville to Beaver Falls and named it after his homeport of Glasgow, Scotland. That same year also saw the opening of the Erie Canal which connected Buffalo, New York with Erie County, Pennsylvania. In 1825, Lewis Cass became governor of Pennsylvania and directed that all townships be divided into five districts under one superintendent. District One included most of what would become Whitehall Township except for parts now located in Canonsburg and Easton Township; District Two covered most of present-day Beaver Falls; District Three included most of what would becomepresent-day Monaca; and District Four encompassed partof present-day Whitehall Township as well as portions now located in Lehigh Valley and Monroe County. In 1827 following complaints from residents about high taxes levied by district supervisors within their township boundaries (specifically those levied on manufacturing activities), an act was passed providing for election by township residents only of board members “to manage all general interest affairs within said township” without reference to any supervisor levels or district levels - an act which remains extant to this day! On July 4th, 1828 two teams from nearby Morenci woncestatus game against Westmorelandtown 12–0 at High School Field – makingWhitehall(then Beechfield) one of only three townships (the others beingMonacaand Union) to ever field competitive football teams during its history! The community’s rich agricultural history begins with early hay production that continues until this day with numerous families having been involved in raising crops such as corn, wheat etc., through many years until disbanding when it became too difficult due to changing soils or weather conditions along with changes associated with population growth throughout much of Allegheny County during this period!
