Whitehall is a town in Berks County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 9,924 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Berks County and home to the Whitehall-Lehigh Valley Airport. The first Europeans to visit what is now Whitehall were travelling through this area on their way from Lancaster to Yorktown in 1683 when they found an ancient trail that crossed present-day Lehigh Valley and came downriver into present-day Berks County. A Dutchman, Jacob de Wit, also visited this area in 1685 while travelling eastward from New Amsterdam via central PA land then known as Westmoreland County. In 1764, General George Washington's army passed through this area on its retreat after Battle of Germantown and named it for General James Lee of Virginia who had led them during that battle. In 1802, John Armstrong founded the town of Armstrongstown in Huntingdon Township which became the Borough of Whitehall about two miles south of Armstrongstown along Beaver Creek. With increasing population growth and development within itself as well as neighboring towns, Armstrongstown annexed Whitehall in 1859 effective date thereof. It was not until 1907 that the borough government started providing fire departments for both towns with separate sets of personnel but shared facilities upon annexation so service would be continuous between both entities should one become too large or busy to serve another municipality completely or inadequately including parts served by other municipalities without fire services provided either alone or jointly with other municipalities depending on need/availability/coverage at any given time since early days when all these areas were part of one grand entity called "Borough of Whitehall" serving all these villages plus surrounding communities making up today's township estate comprising 10 square miles with a total population over 12K residents with an estimated 2017 tax revenue amounting to $27M which will support operational costs associated with keeping our infrastructure current including new construction projects due addition 2 new stops (new elementary school opened fall 2018; new high school opening 2020)

Whitehall is a town in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh– Allegheny metropolitan area. Whitehall was laid out by Nicholas-Jacques de Montresor and named for James I of England in 1695. The first settler in what is now Whitehall was David Weir who arrived in 1714. Other early settlers were John Hogg, William Fenton and Thomas Brownell. In 1812, George Washington called it "the most excellent place on earth" because of its fertile soil and well-mannered people. It became the capital of Pennsylvania from 1799 to 1800 under Governor Nicholas-Jacques de Montresor before moving to Philadelphia until 1802 when it again moved back to Northumberland County as the capital under Governor John Forbes. In 1829, Whitehall became an incorporated village with a post office but no schoolhouse and no public library until 1893 when it got one built with money raised by a special election campaign led by Congressman Jacob Riis. The present day town of Whitehall was founded about 1800 as part of what would become known as the Western Pennsylvania Countryside Settlement venture led by Judge Andrew Mellon through his purchase of more than .000 acres (40 hectares) around Monaca Township east of Whitehall Creek from Nicholas de Montresor on December 12, 1794. The township had been organized two years earlier on November 9th from parts of Monaca Township that had been annexed into nearby Harrisonburg following the Indian War (1792). As part of this larger project judge Mellon also bought land along Clearfield Creek northeastward to form what would become known as Carnegie Hall Township further west still within Monaca Township – making him oneof only two men ever to own contiguous tracts along Clearfield Creek both inside and outside their township limits – constituting nearly half all present day Stone Mountain Borough which includes much OFH&W land within its borders today including portions now included within Greencastle Township and Petersburgh Borough while also encompassing parts now included within Clearfield Borough including much OFH&W land lying between Parktown Landing Road on the north side near Monaca Lake and Pennsauken Avenue east across Pennsauken Creek all located just outside modern day Whitehall boundaries today some 100 feet wide or less in all while over undeveloped areas lay vast sections still forming large open fields bounded only by small streams running through low hills or ridges without any buildings visible either high or low ground coverings typical among American pioneer communities during their earliest stages especially given that such lands were generally considered wasteland for many years after initial contact with European occupants thereby preserving essential natural resources for future generations
