West Mifflin is a town in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 7,521 at the 2010 census. The name "Mifflin" is derived from the Potomac River and was given to the land by Colonel John Forbes Mifflin in 1814. The first settlers of what would become West Mifflin were Andrew and Susannah Childs who arrived in 1786. They farmed along the Monongahela River and founded a small community called Easton. In 1800, they moved their farm to what would become West Mifflin Township. In 1814, John Forbes Mifflin purchased 640 acres of land on the east bank of the Potomac River from James Wilson and laid out a town on this tract named after himself, which he called "Mifflin". It should be noted that this Town did not actually exist until 1892 when it was renamed "Westminster". In 1830, Elijah Hicks settled in what is now part of Greencastle and began manufacturing wagons for transportation across country. This business grew so fast that Hicks built his own sawmill within two years and made his mark on retail commerce throughout central PA. By 1840, he had reached such proportions that he decided to move his operations downstream into Armstrong County where he established an even more successful millinery enterprise called Hicks's Millinery Company Limited . In 1850-1851 Hendricks sold his interest in Hicks's Millinery Company for $1 million dollars to brothers Amos & Solomon Blatchford who later became known as one of America's leading industrialists . During the late 19th century many mills went bankruptcies due to new technologies advancements but there were also some significant advances including electric power which helped save many mills during this time period . After World War I ended with Germany’s defeat, production at many American manufacturers slowed down asanta technological innovation led to increased efficiency in other countries While there are still remnants of traditional American industry like textile mills today (e.g., JCPenney) almost all recent large factory openings have been located overseas where labor costs are much lower

In 1898-99, it hosted the U.S. Open Tennis Championships which are considered to be one of the most prestigious tennis tournaments in history. Today, WestMifflin is known for its cheese industry and for its annual Pumpkinfest festival which celebrates fall culture throughout Allegheny County.
