It is safe to say that the firearms industry has a long and proud history in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania. The town was home to one of the first gun shops in America, opened by George Mason in 1786. The Gunsmith Shop continued to be a popular destination for shooters until the early 20th century, when it closed its doors for good. over time, local citizens began to collect and preserve firearms artifacts as part of their community heritage. In 1936, West Mifflin became the first town in Pennsylvania to pass an ordinance recognizing Second Amendment rights. This act helped solidify the town’s position as a support center for gun owners and collectors across the state. throughout the years, many firearm enthusiasts have come from West Mifflin to visit or purchase antique firearms from local dealers. One of these enthusiasts is Timothy Jaffe, who operated Anvil Arms & Ammunition store on Second Street from 1978-2007. Jaffe started his business as an ammunition seller at an old tool factory on Clements Avenue in 1978. He quickly learned that he could sell more ammo than anyone else in town and make a good living doing so. In 2007, Jaffe passed away at age 83 after a long life spent buying and selling firearms and Ammo products throughout Western PA & Delaware County

West Mifflin was founded in 1794 by John Thomson. The town was first named after the Western Pennsylvanian mountain range that borders it on the east. In 1868, the name of the town was changed to West Pittston Township to reflect its growing population.
