In 1885, two brothers, John and Edward Eastman, started a business that would become one of the most famous optical companies in the country. Their company was called "Eugene optics." It was soon known for its high-quality lenses and accessories for telescopes, microscopes, binoculars and other instruments. In 1902, John Eastman passed away but his sons continued to produce quality optical products. In 1937, their company merged with American Optical Company to create United Optics Corporation. The company continues to produce fine optical products today.
