In 1795, West Chester Township was organized from portions of present-day Butler and Northampton Counties along with Cumberland Township on Long Island Sound across from New York City with intentions to create a town on this new territory outside Philadelphia because there were not enough people living within these counties for a proper town meeting or zoning hearing - ironically happening only months after General George Washington's inauguration! This event served as an early warning system for future township formation efforts throughout Western Pennsylvania! When Pittsburgh annexed 180 acres (71 hectares) east of Mount Lebanon Road between Cherry Hill Road and Wrightstown Road in 1800s it completed what had been started by those seeking independence from London – one reason why Upper Arlington became independent later that same year! Unlikely coal mines were located just outside then small towns such as Greensburg where anthracite coal mining continued until well after World War II; however gas drilling did take place off limits due to health concerns until recently! Erie Canal created an opportunity when navigation improved allowing goodsboat traffic onto Great Lakes via Erie Canal rather than having them leave Philly each way like before; this led directly to mass production opportunities for products like cheese beginning in earnest downstream(!). Many famous names have called home here including: presidents George Washington (1799-1801), James K Polk (1846-1852), Franklin D Roosevelt (1933-1945), John McCain (1988-2006). All served lengthy terms amidst some very challenging times during our Nation’s history...and we are fortunate enough still have many friends & family influential roles within both government & business communities all telling us how lucky we are living here today!
