West Chester, Pennsylvania is a city in Pennsylvania and the county seat of West Chester County. The population was 1,951 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern border of Philadelphia, just west of its larger twin city, Chester. The first settlers to what is now West Chester were Quakers who founded the town in 1798. As part of a process known as324Original Grants, Pennsylvanians agreed to cede all their land east of the Delaware River to George Washington in 1795 when he became President of America. This area included present-day West Chester Township and much of Lebanon Township which surrounds it today. In 1814, two years after becoming an independent country, the United States acquired Texas from Mexico and set about building a road from Austin to Houston via New Orleans. Colonel Robert Ewell donated 640 acres (240 hectares) for this purpose near what is now Center City Philadelphia. When Texas became an American state in 1827, Ewell’s donation reverted to Mexico and was not used for road construction; it continues today as Montrose Avenue). In 1825 Congress passed An Act for Establishing Post Offices within these United States by Order of VicePresident Darius Nix without reference to any township or other body politic within said Province or State; but postmasters were appointed by virtue thereof with power to act accordinge thereto. In pursuance hereof five new post offices were erected at Easton (now Councilman), Allentown (now Bethlehem), Wilkes-Barre (now Scranton), Reading (now Lancaster) and West Chester (nowPhiladelphia). These offices continued until 1870 when they were abolished by order of President James Kappes because “the same could be more easily administered by one officeholders than through successive applications for letters patent” The first post office established in what is now West Chester was called Easton and opened on October 12th 1824 under postal regulation No 8887! The original name change happened due to confusion caused by multiple post office openings across the tri-state area that day!

This gave rise to the phrase "Armstrong's generosity." In 1825, Samuel Colt began production at his factory in nearby Shamokin using cottonseed oil as its main fuel source instead of coal or wood. This led to increased demand for goods made from western cotton plantations such as West Chester's own Blair Mill which became one of the world's largest spinning mills during this time period. During World War II, over 130 businesses were located within five blocks of downtown West Chester including munitions plants such as Bethlehem Steel and American Cyanamid Company; aircraft manufacturers like Bell Aircraft Corporation and Curtiss-Wright Aviation; shipyards like Bethlehem Shipbuilding & Engineering Company; food processing plants like PennsylaniaState Brewing Company;and several banks including First National Bank and Citizens State Bank among others
