Waynesboro is one of the oldest towns in Pennsylvania and has been inhabited by Europeans for over two centuries. It retains much of its colonial character with its many modes of entertainment, including quilting bees and lectures on local history. The first white settlers in Waynesboro arrived in 1799, when Baptist missionaries traveled through the area. They named their community after General George Washington’s home state of Virginia, where they had lived before coming to America. The original town square was located just south of what is now Main Street. In 1812, John Armstrong moved his family to Waynesboro from Lancaster County and founded the first post office here. The village grew rapidly during the 19th century due to its geographic location and natural resources such as coal and oil shale deposits that made it an important manufacturing center for northeastern Pennsylvania. By 1875, Waynesboro had a population of 3,000 people and was known as "the gateway city" to Lehigh Valley because so many businesses were established hereabouts: woolen mills, Foundry & Machine Works (F&M), Canning Factory (later United Cannery Company), Beech Products Corporation (now Beech-Nut Corporation), Keystone Coal Mines etc.). In 1907, waynesboroughers staged a successful boycott against goods produced by Standard Oil Company because they felt that this company discriminated against minority groups such as African Americans. This event helped solidify ways for minorities to join together and form organizations like WASP Business Men's Association in order to fight discrimination within their own communities without having to rely on outsider sources or militant tactics like boycotts or violence

Waynesboro is a town in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,959 at the 2010 census. Waynesboro is located on the north bank of the Susquehanna River and it is bordered by Pennsylvania State Route 152 to the east, West Chester Township to the south, and Delaware County to the west. The first settler in Waynesboro was John Nicholson who arrived in 1786. Nicholson's heirs sold land near Waynesboro to other settlers in 1802-1803. In 1827, John Hays opened a woolen mill in Waynesboro. By 1830, there were five mills in operation in Waynesboro. The Panic of 1837 destroyed many small businesses and made it difficult for towns to support themselves during that time period. However, by 1840, there were only two mills left operating in town. In 1850-1851, Walter Piquet built a log cabin on what is now Old Main Street within present day White Hall Township before moving into his farmstead nearby that year with his wife Sarah Jane Piquet (1798-1876). They would later become one of the most prominent families of Waynesboro through their agricultural pursuits as well as their political activism including serving as supervisors from 1901-1912 and 1917-1921 and as Mayor from 1922-1924. Mrs. Piquet also served as Vice President of American Friends Union from 1923 until her death four years later while living at 5200 Herndon Avenue NW after being diagnosed with cancer which she battled unsuccessfully for over two years prior to her death at age 73 on October 10th 1934 following an extended illness announced weeks earlier when she had no pain relief available due to lack of insurance coverage covering such treatments during this time period). In 1865-1866 Abraham Lincoln visited Waynesboro while he was campaigning for president; several citizens took advantage of his visit by erecting a sign reading "Lincoln seen here" along Old Main Street where he stopped for lunch that day according to HistoryLink . After Mr Lincoln's visit local resident James Fenton erected another sign reading "Mr Lincoln gone but not forgotten" next door about one mile west on High Street some time between 1865 and 1870 which has been preserved today as part of Fenton Park off Cookstown Road just outside Ofallon (the current site occupied by Our Lady Of All Nations Roman Catholic Church built c1900) . A post office called Waverly was established at this point but never operated because its mailing address was changed back to White Hall after officials realized that Waverly did not exist since wayneborough post office had been discontinued prior thereto according to Wayne County records kept until 1925 .
