In 1894, Waynesboro was founded as a small town in southwestern Pennsylvania. The area that would later become Waynesboro was first explored by European explorers in the late eighteenth century and early nineteenth century. By 1894, the village of Waynesboro had only three businesses and fifty-six residents. In 1894, local entrepreneur James Fenton established the First National Bank in Waynesboro. Fenton served as president of the bank until his death in 1916. The first optical equipment store in Waynesboro was opened by local businessman John A. White in 1896. White operated an optometric store for over thirty years until his death in 1951. In 1899, local physician Drs. Charles Hays and Harry Ham were the first to open a clinic at what is now known as HealthCare Plaza on Main Street in Waynesboro. At this time, it was the only clinic west of Philadelphia that offered medical services to patients living within twenty-four miles of town (although there are still clinics located outside ofWaynesboro). In 1907, photographer Julius Munch opened his own photography studio on Third Avenue in Waynesboro (now Veterans Parkway). From 1907-1914, Munch produced some of the earliest photographs taken during the American Revolution era (i.e., those shot by Lieutenant Colonel John Jarratt). During World War II, many businesses closed due to wartime rationing; however, one business that did not experience any significant impact was Mr. White's Optical Store which continued to sell optical products into 1946 when it merged with other businesses to form The Optical Company Incorporated (TOCI). TOCI continued to operate as an independent company until its dissolution effective February 1st 1984 following a series of mergers and acquisitions throughout its history

That tower still stands as one of the most visible landmarks in town today. In 1961, waynesborohad its own school District No 2 with schools located at Market Street and High Street; however they merged with neighbouring Union School District No 2 in 1996 creating one large school district with over 300 students enrolled inside and out of buildings on three campuses across six blocks east of downtown! Today there are only a few businesses remaining from whenwaynesborohasover10 thousand residents: Grains Unlimited store (closed 2009), Mrs Edwards Nursery & Baby Store (closed 2007), Barnes & Noble bookstore (closed 2010), Subway sandwich shop (closed 2006) and two Hardware stores - Hometown Hardware & Diehard Radio Shack - both closed since the turn of the 21st century. Waynestown has always been an important center for agriculture because its proximity to water allows for sustainable farming practices which have allowed them to be among America’s leading agricultural producers for centuries . Today’s farmers operate livestock operations such as pigs, chickens and goats as well as crops like cornmeal milling , wheat flour production and soybean oil production . They also raise dairy cows and hogs for their milk products as well as hay bales for fodder purposes . The primary economic activity within Waynestown these days has become retail sales but farm activities continue unchanged because there is no need for them anymore thanks to advances made by modern technology
