Waynesboro is a small town located in the Lehigh Valley, south of Philadelphia. It is part of the Allentown-Easton-Middletown, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 3,898 at the 2010 census. The first settler in Waynesboro was Isaac Bradley in 1795. He and his family built a cabin on the present site of Waynesboro High School. The town was named for John Waynesborough, an Englishman who had come to America in 1785 and founded Allentown. In 1802, George Washington passed through Waynesboro on his way to Lancaster County to campaign for reelection as president. After Washington's election, residents voted to name their town after him and he granted them this privilege. In 1814, Benjamin Latimer founded Latimer's Brewery here in what is now the Main Street business district. Today Latimer's Brewery remains one of the most important businesses in Waynesboro with its brewing operations still taking place today under its original name - Latimer's Brewing Company - as well as its current location within Waynesboro Borough Hall building (now home to Township government). In 1853, Wm Hartsock opened his large importing business here which continued until 1924 when it moved to Lansdale thanks to advances in transportation technology. In 1865, Abraham Lincoln was campaigning for president when he arrived at Waysborough Station on April 12th from Shiloh near Corinthia IL; he then traveled by stagecoach northeast over Monongahela Pass into Pennsylvania before turning north onto Ulysses S Grant Boulevard (now Interstate 76) and finally arriving at Waysborough Station where he stopped for dinner that evening before continuing on his journey eastward toward Yorktown Heights via Gettysburg National Military Park & Museum while thousands of people watched from various points along Route 66 across central Pennsylvania! WAYNESBORO—Once upon a time there were 3 settlements: Isaac Bradley’s Cabin (later High School), Wm Hartsock’s Importing Firm & Abraham Lincoln’s Campaign Stopover – all clustered together aroundpresent day intersection of US Routes 11&66! Nowadays just waysboro borough has these buildings— Original Theater District #1 which housed Post Office(1853-1856) & Market House(1925-1927), Tower Building(1893), Borough Hall Building(1990),and main thoroughfare “Main Street” which leads you straight from post office plaza all the way down 2 blocks past old school

However, it continued to be a vital stop on the Underground Railroad until 1865 when federal troops moved into the area to suppress Reconstruction efforts followingthe American Civil War. In addition to its role as an important stopping point on the Underground Railroad, Waynesboro also played an important role within Pennsylvania society during this time period. In 1814, the United States acquired what is now West Virginia from Britain in the Treaty of Ghent. As part of this treaty, the United States relinquished all claims to territories west of the Allegheny Mountains, including Waynesboro. The town continued to grow and by 1830 it had a population of 1,000 people. However, during the American Civil War, Waynesboro was largely destroyed by Confederate forces. In 1865, following the end of the war, Waynesboro reverted to Pennsylvania form as part of a Reconstruction plan that aimed to rebuild post-war America. The town's growth slowed after this time and it only regained its former prominence as an agricultural center in the late 20th century.
