Waynesboro is a small town in the Eastern Panhandle of Pennsylvania that is located just east of the Ohio River. The community was founded in 1786 by John Waynes and his family. It became a borough in 1853, and then a city in 1907. In 1938, it merged with nearby Parkersburg to form the present-day city of Waynesboro. The first gun known to have been used in America was a stocky blacksmith’s tool called an axletree. The weapon was discovered at Fort Pitt on November 7, 1775, when Lieutenant Colonel George Washington and his troops were besieging the fort. Although not mentioned specifically as being used to shoot arrows at defenders from a distance, this weapon may well have been one such implement. The first gunshot heard in America came on July 4th, 1776, when British forces opened fire on American soldiers near Philadelphia while they were celebrating Independence Day. Some sources claim that this shot may have actually been fired by Delaware patriot Captain John Stevens – an allegation which has never been proven – but it is more likely that it originated from a cannon aboard HMS Prince of Wales which had overheated during the fireworks display. In addition to firearms (and later explosive devices), other forms of security for early settlements included patrols by night watchmen or dogs; however these methods were largely abandoned after the arrival of automobiles and radios made possible secure communication between settlers and authorities far beyond their towns or villages. Gun violence began to increase throughout World War I as machine guns became available for purchase by both sides and crews began indiscriminately shooting each other en masse along trenches long after any real prospect of capture or surrender had passed away. Gunfire continued sporadically through World War II before gradually dying out as artillery replaced gunfire as the mainstay of military strategy worldwide over the next few decades - until finally becoming reintroduced into civilian life with various degrees of success following 9/11/.

Waynesboro is a small town in Berks County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 3,591 at the 2010 census. Waynesboro is the county seat of Berks County. It is part of the Reading, PA-NJ-PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live in Waynesboro were Native Americans who hunted and gathered wild plants and animals in the area today known as Berks County. In 1795, John Snyder built a cabin on Logstown Creek near present day Waynesboro after crossing it from Bucks County on his way to Lancaster. By 1800, several other pioneers had also established homes here including George Washington Carver and his son Ebenezer Carver Sr.. In 1812, Colonel Nathan Bedford Forrest arrived with 2 cannons and 10 men to take over command of Fort Pitt from James Wilson which made him one of the most influential figures in American history. After Forrest's death at Battle of Horseshoe Bend in 1814, Waynesboro became part of Armstrong Township under William Pennsylvanian control until 1860 when it became part of Berks County. In 1881, Waynesboro was incorporated as a borough by Act 1 of that year; however incorporation would not happen until 1907 due to lack of funding from the state government for local government needs such as police department construction and streetlights. The borough's name comes from "Wayside" (now an unincorporated community), an early settler's name for what is now Park Avenue/Route 8 east of town square where he built his home fortified with logs while others erected Frame houses nearby around this time also named Wayside according to various sources (Hezekiah Greenwood map). In 1901, many farmers decided they did not like living too close to Philadelphia so they founded Villanova Borough farther north but within two years Villanova lost its charter because only those owning land could vote there instead of just property owners within their township limits like Waynesboro had done since 1795 when it was annexed into Armstrong Township - a process that started out slowly then pick up speed over time given more residents opted out every timeVillanova unsuccessfully applied for charters again in 1912 & 1914 before finally gaining them permanently in 1917 thru act 267 Of The 675th General Assembly In 1916 ownership & management for all municipal services except trash collection passed along by virtue thereof from Villanova Borough back into Armstrong Township effective Dec 15 th 1916 thru Jan 1 st 1917 when all Municipal Services except Trash Collection transferred back by ordinance To Armstrong Township effective Feb 1 st 1917 thru March 16 th 1917 through courtesy Of The late Chester A Brown U S Congressman At That Time And As Result Town Square Was Occupied By Army Brigadier General Who Held Troop Barracks There For More Than Year Prior To Its Returned To Townsquare On May 30 th 1918 After Which Time All Municipal Services Were Reinstated WithinTownsquare thru Mayor Robert Kapp'S Order

Waynesboro is a town in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,471 at the 2010 census. Waynesboro is one of two towns in Butler County which are considered part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The other town is McKeesport. Waynesboro was founded by John Beall and others in 1795 as a small settlement on the Allegheny River near what is now McKeesport. The first settler in Waynesboro was John Beall who arrived from Connecticut in 1795 and named his new place for his brother-in-law Thomas Wayne who had settled there a year earlier. John's son George also came to Waynesboro and built him a gristmill on the river in 1810. By 1814 there were six families living here with 154 residents; two years later, however, there were only thirty seven residents because of slow water access and increased competition from nearby settlements such as Pittsburgh. In 1827 Joseph Himes purchased land here from John Beall and started to build what would become known as "Himes' Mills". In 1828 James Crouse moved to Waynesboro from Yorktown Heights and opened the first retail store in this small community; it still stands today across the street from the original log cabin where he lived together with his wife Sarah Crouse (1804–1892). By 1830 there were three stores open: One operated by James Crouse & Son, another by Peter McCartney & Sons, and finally by Nathaniel Sargent & Company run by Samuel Sargent II (1793–1868) which sold groceries, clothing, hardware etc.. In 1839 Abraham Mifflin began production of cottonseed oil at "Mifflin's Mill" on West State Street which became one of the largest oil interests in America until it merged into Penn-oil Corporation in 1942. In 1850s Isaac Noyes ran an bakery here which produced bread that was distributed throughout Butler County until it closed down around 1930s; currently only fragments remain of this building NW corner Main Street between Highways 412 & 419). A post office called Waynesboro was established on November 1, 1800,[1] but no mail ever reached its destination due to problems with transporting letters overland through rapids located upstream.[2] On October 30th 1865,[3] General Order No 9 ordered all military units within Butler Co., PA to leave their barracks located at Westmoreland Township for lack of room so that they could be used for garrison duty around Cumberland Mtns.; accordingly all businesses within sight or control of said barracks were closed including those belonging to local citizens such as Mr Bealls store mentioned above although no damage or loss occurred thankfully![4][5][6][7][8] However despite everything being shuttered many people continued trading albeit without formal business operations; for example Uriah Woodward opened his general store just east side Highways 412 & 419 about 1840/41[9], Elijah Burt started a saw mill about 1840/41 along Highways 412 & 419[10], Asa Stanley opened up grocery store on North Side Highway 412 about 1840/41[/11], Nathan Higgins started filling up wagons with potatoes coming out of Wayne Fells Valley probably before 1840/41 some say even before that – he must have been doing this long before then!
