The town's only business is the Washington Post Office which opened in 1871 and closed in 1973. The first settler in what would become Washington was Nicholas Worthington who arrived on October 26, 1795 and erected a cabin on the east side of Beaver Creek. He and his family were followed by George Washington who set up a tavern near present day Arlington Cemetery on December 6, 1795. In 1800 John Hawley founded an agricultural colony called Hawleystown which included parts of today's Washington and portions of today's Berks County. On January 9th 1802 Benjamin Rush became the first governor of Pennsylvania when he was elected to succeed Sir John Moore as Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court during the Adams administration. In 1830 Isaac Asher built one of the earliest mills in what would become Washington with power supplied by water from Beaver Creek. The mill closed around 1840 but as it had no connection to other businesses or markets it lost its marketability and continued to be used for storage until 1870 when it burned down due to an accidental fire that started inside the building while workers were changing clothes! The post office opened in 1871 after years of lobbying by local citizens including Congressman John Fenton from Philadelphia who also helped found Allentown Savings Bank & Trust Company with fellow Congressman James Beattie (founder of Bethlehem Steel). With its upstairs newsroom now used as office space for various government agencies such as US Customs Service, US Secret Service and US Postal Inspection Service during its time as a post office; it remains one of America's most iconic buildings! Washington has seen some significant changes over time including becoming home to both Eagles Stadium (now known as M&T Bank Stadium) parkade located next door to police headquarters where professional football games are played each year before being demolished for development in 2013; and then later becoming home to Verizon Wireless' 3G testing lab before finally being torn down in 2018!

On July 4th of that year,General Jackson ordered all citizens of Yorktown to parade down Market Street to Independence Hall for an open air ball game against Lafayette's army under De Witt Clinton that never took place because of heavy rains. That event is generally celebrated as National fireworks day in America. In 1851,George Washington High School was opened in what is now downtown Washington after being built on the site of former Market Street Methodist Church which burned down two years earlier on December 12th, 1850 due to damage done by American Indians while raiding nearby settlements along the Allegheny River plains
