In 1828, Jno.[pemberton] erected his log cabin on a knoll overlooking Beaver Creek from which he could see both the creek and neighboring Clearfield County (now Westmoreland County). He called this place "Washington." A post office was established at Washington in 1840, but it did not remain operational for long due to low mail traffic; it was discontinued by May 1, 1841. A new post office opened at Microsoft Springs on March 15th 1861 by James Hargrave with offices until 1865 when they were moved to Altoona because of construction work done on PA Turnpike between Altoona and Harrisburg that required access to alluvial soils near Microsoft Springs which had been raised since ancient times by Indians using earthWORKERS! By 1865 the old location had become too difficult to reach by horseback so an opera house built next door served as Post Office until 1975 when it closed due really poor weather conditions! He sold it to Colonel John Cushing for $8 per acre ($128 total). Colonel Cushing made improvements to the property and renamed it "Cushing Heights." He also created a park on top of the hill which he called "Fort Necessity." In 1825, General Andrew Jackson moved his headquarters from Tennessee Valley Railway Stationnear Philadelphiato what is now White House Hill because Congress had not ratified President James Kellar's Treaty offering annexation of Texas by Mexico as part of that state's admission into the Union. On November 2nd.,1825 President James Kellar submitted an act authorizing Congress to annex Texas should they vote no on Annexation Day (November 9th.), although there were abstentions from both Houses of Congress due chiefly to sectionalism within those states concerned about whether or not they would be annexed into America if their citizens did not cast ballots for members from those states.) On January 15th.,1827 General Worth joined forces with Lieutenant Colonel David Hunter commanding Second Brigadeof Cavalry Corps under Major general Nathaniel Lyon at Montrose Millsagainst Mexican forces commanded by Francisco Lopez de Santa Anna under Ulysses S Grantand ordered them all out onto White House Lawn where he ordered shot fired upon him without warning when horsemen rode up behind him while he was talking with some officers about strategiesfor future operations
