Uniontown is a small town in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Uniontown was James McDonald, who arrived in 1794. McDonald and his family were farmers and built a log cabin near what is now the intersection of Main Street and North Maple Avenue. In 1814, John Sprague settled in Uniontown and started a bakery which still operates today. In 1824, Isaac Baldwin established a mill on the west side of Prospect Hill Road. The town began to grow with the arrival of settlers from Ohio in 1830 and 1840. By 1860, Uniontown had a total population of 468 people. Most residents worked on farms or as mechanics or traders until 1865 when mills closed due to lack of customers or investment opportunities after Reconstruction ended in America following the American Civil War. In 1872, three men decided to start an insurance company called First National life Insurance Company (FNLIC). FNLIC became one of the largest insurance companies in America and its headquarters are still located here today on Market Square Drive within sight of both main streets - one mile (1 kilometer) north of where it began operations! In 1907-1908, Uniontown constructed its first school – Butler School – which served students up until High School graduation requirements changed during World War II; then starting again during 1946-1947 when all public schools were reorganized into high schools/junior colleges under state government control[2]. A new high school building was completed for Uniontown Intermediate School District No 527 in 1957 acrossMain Street from Butler School[3], which serves grades 6 through 8 including many military families that have moved into nearby areas since then such as Mt Lebanon Middle School[4]; parents continue to send their children there even though they’re no longer needed at this school district level anymore; also part of District 527 are two other elementary schools KIPP Kingwood Elementary & Glenora Elementary also serving grades6-8 along with four middle schools: Bethel Preparatory Academy (KIPP), Valley View MiddleSchool (Valley View), sr Heights Jr./Sr High Schools (Homeschooling), Quaker Grove IntermediateSchool District 2195 alsoservinggrades 6 through 8 as well as two parks: One named “Johnstown Park” after Johnstown native Neil Kinnear who donated land for it while another more recent name “Northside Park” honors local steelworker Tony Preble whose son developed it adjacent to his father’s former property[5]; finally there is also one special education facility: Centennial Special Education Center serving pre-kindergarten through 3rd grade students affected by specific learning disabilities like autism Spectrum Disorder etc.. Uniontown has always been known for being home to some very talented individuals and entrepreneurs including agriculture entrepreneur Donny Bogan who founded Prestige Dairy LLC; Bethlehem steelworker Harry Weisenthal who produced coal for Pittsburgh Steel Corporation before moving into aluminum production; doctor Jeffrey Lichtman who ran Pennmedic Hospital before becoming president & CEO emeritus—and many others too numerous to mention here………..Uniontown has always been known for its rich history & culture but over time it has become less visible owing both to changes within our community&the increasing influence of neighboring communities….
