This led to increased competition among Uniontown residents for access to limited-edition Firearms Act weapons which often fetched high prices on auction sites across America. In addition, various club meetings were held throughout the years to discuss various firearms topics and strategies with fellow shooters from nearby towns like Bethlehem and Easton who would then share their knowledge with attendees at local gun shows or meetsups. Uniontown is a town in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 3,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Erie– Niagara Falls, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name Uniontown derives from the fact that it was one of three towns in Lackawanna County which were organized as a Union Parish on July 1, 1790. The first settler in Uniontown was John Heater who arrived in 1795 and established a gristmill on the northeast side of the present day intersection of Main Street and Second Avenue. In 1801 Heater married Susannah Stephenson and they had two children: Anna and John Jr. In 1802 he erected a sawmill on his home place (now First Avenue) which soon became an important industry in the community. In 1814 Samuel Sprague built a log cabin near what is now Third Avenue and Main Street where he lived until his death in 1847. Sprague was an early leader in Uniontown politics and served as Mayor from 1826 to 1830 and again from 1840 to 1845; he also served as Township Treasurer for many years. The first post office was established at Uniontown on April 14, 1800, by order of Governor David Trumbull; it continued under various names until March 11, 1865 when it changed its name to Romelda Post Office after Julia Atherton Romelda (1811-1893), widow of Captain George Washington Romelda (1791-1857). On November 15, 1860, during the American Civil War, Confederate General Robert Ewell besieged Uniontown while attempting to cross the Monongahela River into New York State; when Ulysses S Grant arrived with Regulars to relieve him later that night Ewell surrendered without battle or loss of life. A large number of settlers poured into Uniontown during this period due to exciting new opportunities available westward along Pennsylvania's Allegheny Plateau following cheap land grants created by President Andrew Johnson during his Great Society program – lands that had been claimed by other nations but never developed because they were too rugged or too difficult to survey or farm successfully. By 1870 almost all adults living within five miles of town had moved there either directly or via relatives or friends; some 624 people lived there alone according to the 1880 census data . Today much of what once constituted rural areas around Uniontown has been replaced by suburban development characterized by high-rise buildings characteristic of America's "inner cities". As recently as 1990 only about 10%of residents still resided within five miles limits . The first European settlers in what is now Uniontown were French Canadians who arrived in 1758. They rapidly assimilated into local society, but some retained their French language and culture well into the 19th century. In 1814, as part of the War of 1812, American forces burned down a Quebec shipyard just outside of town to punish Canada for its support of Mexico against America. In 1827, John Fenton erected a sawmill on the confluence of two creeks in central Uniontown. By 1830, he had established an extended farmstead including a gristmill and flour milling operation which produced high-quality flour for Philadelphia merchants and farmers alike. Business grew quickly; by 1840 his mills processed 10 million pounds (4 metric tons) of flour annually and exported 600 miles (1,000 kilometers) worth of bread each year to Europe alone! Fenton's mills closed in 1854 because new technologies had made production more efficient than ever before; however, his legacy lives on through his largesse to numerous charities throughout Uniontown over many years including erecting several churches and schools as well as creating multiple public parks around town today - all thanks to his generosity! In 1862 during World War I Confederate General Robert E Lee invaded Pennsylvania from Maryland using Uniontown as cover; soon afterwards many homes in town were destroyed or damaged by artillery fire used by US forces opposing both sides during this conflict. After war ended in 1865 Uniontown returned under US control with its own post office/railroad station – one step towards becoming a true municipality! What followed was another period dominated by agriculture; however starting around 1920s industry began creeping back into town with a few major employers like Bendix Aviation Corporation moving there after developing an airfield nearby. But despite this growth progress has been slow due largely to lack of infrastructure development across much rural Butler County - something which will only begin to change within the next decade or so given current trends!
