By 1870, Uniontown had a population of 1,500 people and began to develop into a small town with its own library (founded 1870), jail (1871), post office (1872), fire department (1875), school district (1881), Masonic Lodge No. 2 (founded 1868) and churches (Congregationalist Church founded 1865). During World War II operations at Duquesne Steel Works closed down many blast furnaces near Valley Forge PA which forced workers out of their homes creating an opportunity for young men from nearby towns like Uniontown to find work at Duquesne instead The war also created demand for goods produced by local farmers that could not be sourced locally so steel production emerged as one major industry after other throughout eastern Pennsylvania including Uniontown becoming one of many "steeldependent" communities during this time period
Uniontown was founded by the Potomac and Monongahela Rivers in 1756. The United States Congress ratified the Treaty of Paris in 1763, which ended the American Revolution. Uniontown became a city in 1854.
