In 1814, the towns of Greensburg and Butler merged to form Uniontown Township which continued to exist until it merged with Greenville Township on March 1, 1907. On February 14, 1865 an act was passed by the Pennsylvania General Assembly creating Uniontown Borough as a part of Potterstown borough over which it had jurisdiction but without voting rights or representation within that borough; this law allowed for more rapid growth and development through annexation by other municipalities during this time period. On November 16, 1912, voters approved incorporation of Unitarian Universalist congregation located at 9th Street and Penn Avenue into Uniontown Borough effective December 10th; however due to zoning changes made by Borough President James Hardwick two years earlier this congregation's building would not be able to meet new codes set forth in those regulations so they vacated their property on December 10th and moved into a meeting hall located at 7th Street & Sisson Avenue until their building could be renovated and re-zoned prior to re- incorporation effective January 1st 1915 It was during World War II when Uniontown experienced its most significant growth as industries such as munitions manufacturing shifted from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to nearby Monroeville because of wartime needs for labor . After the war many businesses closed down including one business that produced ammunition using equipment salvaged from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre military sites . In 1970 uniontown annexed nearby Park Heights providing more housing than what had been available within town limits before annexation while still retaining much of its commerce . In recent years there have been efforts made by some residents within town limits to redevelop unincorporated areas around town center such as La Salle University Campus . According to the 2010 census, there are 2 bars/restaurants within uniontown boundaries along with several small stores making up nearly all commercial operations therein apart from a few large retailers which are situated elsewhere throughout westmoreland county
