Uniontown is a small town in Berks County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. The community is home to the Uniontown Museum and Heritage Park. The village of Uniontown was created from part of the township of Bethlehem on January 1, 1868. It was named for General James Longstreet (1785-1860), who fought in the Mexican War and also served as a U.S. Senator from Georgia. Uniontown's first store opened in 1869. The first post office was established in 1875. In 1906, many residents of Bethlehem moved to Uniontown after they realized that they could get more good job opportunities in their new community than they could find back home in Bethlehem Township. By 1920, Uniontown had become one of the most populous villages in Berks County with over 2,000 residents living there exclusively or primarily within its boundaries. On October 20,2007, Hurricane Ivan made landfall onshore near Independence Township in central Delaware County and quickly caused extensive damage throughout northeastern Pennsylvania including Uniontown which sustained some $2 million worth of damage to homes and businesses alone - more than any other town or county within eastern Pennsylvania during that time period! On December 12th 2007 Mayor John Koval announced plans for the creation of a new village called "New Beginnings" adjacent to existing Village of Uniontown across Route 22 east off I-280 just north of Allentown PA will be home to about 400 people who are farmers/ ranchers/ fishermen etc., all coming together from different parts Delaware Valley including Newburgh (northwest) Harrisonburg (southwest) Reading (central) Lehigh Valley as well as portions of Southwestern PA communities thanks to grants and support by both state governments

Uniontown is a small town in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. Uniontown was founded in 1786 as a small trading post on the Susquehanna River by General George Washington and Colonel John Armstrong. It became a borough in 1824 and then a city in 1865. The downtown business district has been renovated several times since its incorporation, most notably in 1984 when it was designated a National Historic Landmark. The town motto is "From Rice to Revolution". Uniontown was one of the first places in America to be organized as an independent village, chartered by charter King George III on December 12, 1786. On May 9, 1800, local residents voted to secede from Pennsylvania and become an independent republic under the name of "Washington Township." In 1814-1815, Uniontown served as headquarters for Brigadier General James Ketchum's brigade during his unsuccessful invasion of Mexico City. In 1865, after Charles Wirtz's victory over Abraham Lincoln at Gettysburg (over three months later), Uniontown became the first city in America to be completely destroyed by fire; all but two blocks were burned down within 24 hours of Wirtz's surrender agreement being published. A few weeks later, on October 15th 1865 Mayor William Lister convened a meeting to consider what should be done with the now abandoned city center; upon conclusion that there would be no practical use for it (due to increasing industrialization and suburban sprawl) Lister ordered its demolition immediately - this event is considered one of the earliest examples of urban renewal projects in North America. On November 13th 1865 Uniontown voters passed an ordinance establishing themselves as a territorial government under the jurisdiction of Congress rather than Philadelphia which had already seceded from Virginia just days earlier; this led eventually to annexation into Philadelphia due to lack of other alternatives at that time. After years of neglect and disrepair following their incorporation as a city/borough (most notably during Prohibition), much work began on restoration efforts following Mayor Lister's order - including new streets and sidewalks completed within 2½ years (!), installation of streetlights throughout downtown within 10 years (!), preservation or reconstructionof many historic buildings including The Masonic Temple which still stands today (the only brick building remaining from pre-prohibition days!), installation OF public transportation within 6 years (!), AND establishment OF even more comprehensive planning ordinances!! These plans resulted ultimately in Preservation District #1 status forUniontown among all American municipalities through designation as “A Distinguished Community” by both APPRAISERS & HISTORICAL SOCIETY OF PENNSYLVANIA!

The company built a mill here and early settlers were attracted to the land because of the natural resources it offered. In 1812, Uniontown became part of the newly formed United States of America and soon developed into a prosperous town. It was an important center for trade and commerce during the Whiskey Rebellion of 1849-1851 and later became a key industrial city. Many famous people were born or lived here, including Ulysses S. Grant, Benjamin Franklin, James Buchanan, Abraham Lincoln and more.
