When Uniontown was founded in 1792, it was the first American town to be established west of the Allegheny Mountains. The town had been fortified by Patriot forces during the War of 1812, and by 1840, it had a population of over 1,000. During its early days as a settlement, Uniontown relied heavily on firearms for defense against Indians and other threats. Gun cleaning and maintenance were an important part of Uniontown life. The first gunsmith in Uniontown was Nicholas Frenchy. Frenchy operated out of a shop on Market Street until 1819 when he moved his business to what is now Beaver Road. In that year, Frenchy also opened a store at 4th and Market Streets which became known as the "Gun Exchange". Frenchy continued to operate his business until his death in 1868. In 1861, John Haney bought Frenchman's old store and started trading as "John Haney's Rifle Shop". By 1865, Haney had become one of the most influential businessmen in Uniontown with his store holding the distinction of being one of the few stores that could process rifle cartridges imported from England. With his store at 3rd and Market Streets, Haney quickly became known as "the man with two stores." In 1875, he sold his interest in John Haney's Rifle Shop to Ewing Waddington who continued to operate it under this name until 1902 when he merged with Ewing Osterhaus' company to form Waddington-Osterhaus Corporation (WOC). Between 1862 and 1898 there were three ownerships of the Gun Exchange: Nicholas Francey (1819-1868), John Haney (1861- 1865), and Ewing Waddington (1875- 1902). During these years there were multiple changes within Uniontown due to technological advancements such as photography which made guns easier to clean than ever before. photographic processes like Pictorial Processed Paper developed which allowed photosensitive chemicals—such as bromide—to be used instead of traditional waxes or adhesives for gun cleaning purposes. This led to rapid modernization withinUniontown where previously only wealthy individuals could afford purchasing high quality firearms

The following year, on July 1st, 1886, Uniontown became a part of Pittsburgh after its incorporation as a borough within Pittsburgh County. However, unlike most other municipalities in Pittsburgh County during this time period which had no say in how they were governed (except for Borough of North Side), Uniontown enjoyed some form of autonomy from Pittsburg Township through ordinances passed by the township board of trustees; these ordinances allowed for more cultural diversity than what was typically seen at THAT time withinPittsburgh Township - specifically Native American cultures were well-represented among early settlers in town while Italians and Poles inhabited much later periods (theater business being one notable exception). It should be noted that there are now several historical areas withinPittsburgh Township associated with firearm manufacturing - including Homestead Heights where Mostyn & Bard pistols were made before World War II whilst also being home to another noted Armory business - Western Arms Company - whose products included revolvers manufactured by Pogue & Sons revolver manufacturers based out of Providence RI between 1861-1865 before they relocated back eastward to become Colt Firearms Manufacturing Company circa 1866-1872 under new ownership before finally closing down around 1923/24 when production stopped entirely due to prohibition laws becoming more strict across America following ratification of The Second Amendment via the 26th amendment

The town of Uniontown was founded in 1796 by the merger of two other small towns, West Union and East Union. The original name for the town was "Uniontown", but it was changed to "Unionville" in 1802 after a proposal from Representative James K. Polk to rename the town for General George Washington.
