In 1847, Uniontown was a small community in the Monongahela County of Pennsylvania. It had a population of only twenty-five people. The town was renamed after the United States Constitution was ratified that year. At the time, Uniontown consisted of just four houses and two stores. Uniontown, Pennsylvania is a town in Union County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Philadelphia– Carbon Hill–Wilmington Combined Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1790 by colonists from Scotland as a trading post on the Susquehanna River. In 1838, Uniontown became an incorporated village. In 1875, it merged with Carbon Hill to form one municipality. In 1870, eight settlers and their families established the first school in Uniontown. That same year also saw the opening of what would become the town's first hotel- restaurant complex: The Central Hotel and Restaurant. Uniontown has seen many changes over its history - including being abandoned for several decades after World War II due to a lack of economic opportunities; becoming an industrial center during postwar years; experiencing significant growth following Amendments 2 (1981) and 3 (1987); and then experiencing significant shrinkage following the passage of Act 7 of 1998 which created Philadelphia's city limits within Union Township boundaries
Uniontown is a small town in Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 9,822 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Union County. The community was founded in 1795 by Germans who had moved from Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany to what is now southern Pennsylvania. Uniontown celebrates its bicentennial in 2019. The first settler in Uniontown was Peter Kulp, who arrived in 1795 and built a log cabin on the site of present day Uniontown High School. Other early settlers included Jacob Friesen and Nicholas Grosseman. In 1834, John Crouse donated land to the town for public school purposes and the name "Union" was given to the township by him and others that same year. In 1839, two brothers named George Wirths bought some land adjoining Crouse's property for $1 per acre and soon began building a cotton gin on it which they called Wirthsville (now known as Monroeville). By 1847, there were six residents living in Uniontown: four men and two women; one male laborer; one female servant; one family farmstead with twelve cows milked and four pigs fattened; and three stores with seven barrels of molasses each - all run by subscription or gift money system - yielding an annual income of $4,500 ($100 million today). In 1849, General David Hunter organized a militia company from parts of central Pennsylvania to suppress Indian uprisings throughout western PA during the Mexican-American War. Afterward, many German immigrants settled here including many mechanics who worked on army units stationed along the Ohio River Valley before heading west to buffalo hunting country near Fort Worth, Texas during what is known as "the Great Migration." By 1870 there were over 100 people living here with twenty businesses providing services such as grocery store/cider house/laundry center/school bus stop etc.; six churches serving denominations such as Lutheranism (one founded prior to Uniontown), Methodist Episcopal Church (formed 1865), Presbyterian Church (1868), Baptist Churches (1872) etc.; five schools offering primary through high school levels: two GradeSchools operated by private individuals within town limits while Public Schools includingElementary open only within specific boundaries set forth by Act No 10 of 1889; thirteen farmers markets located throughout town selling produce local farmers had grown around their homes or hand hauled from surrounding areas; eleven blacksmith shops operating across sections within town limits turning out nearly 400 items made from wrought iron products used commonly among craftsmen including candle holders etching tools chainmail duster floor protectors hats coasters horseshoes flask watches bandanas keychains pendants earrings necklaces bracelets anklets . . .
