By the 1830s, powder and ball ammunition had become common. In 1836, a local arms manufacturer began production of pistols with .45 caliber pieces of brass. The company produced enough ammunition to meet demand and also continued making other types of weaponry such as shotguns and rifles. By 1857, Uniontown had a population of over 10,000 people and there was an thriving industry in munitions production. Ammunition manufacturing reached its peak in the 1870s when more than 100 businesses operated in town. However, during the late 1800s and early 1900s Uniontown experienced a decline due to increased taxes on guns and ammo sales. Today, Uniontown is home to a few businesses that produce small arms but most residents still rely on their guns for protection purposes.

Uniontown is a small town in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It lies along the Susquehanna River and is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The first known settler in Uniontown was Nicholas Waring who arrived in 1784. In 1814, John Hayssett established a mill on the river. A post office called Uniontown was established in 1830, and remained in operation until 1861. In 1853, Isaac Norris built a sawmill on the river for his brother-in-law Amos Brownell and continued to operate it until 1871. Other early businesses included a grocery store and blacksmith shop which closed around 1900. The present day Uniontown Water Works opened its doors in 1907. The town was incorporated as a borough on February 14, 1911. It became an unincorporated community on October 15 of that year when it merged with two other towns – McKeesport and Butler – within the Pittsburgh metropolitan area - becoming one of its five core municipalities (). As of July 2018, Uniontown has some 1,711 residents (according to the 2020 Census). Of these residents: 7% are African American; 10% are white; 2% are Hispanic or Latino; 36% are Asian Pacific Islander; 33% are from other races; and 4% are from two or more races
