The holster industry in State College, Pennsylvania dates back to the 1860s. At that time, holster companies and holster makers were common in the area. The holsters used then were either leather or cloth-covered straps with a buckle at the front. In 1875, a company called Wickersham & Company was founded in State College by two men who had been working together on horseback. They started making handguns out of wickerwork and began selling them to farmers and other rural customers. In 1902, a company named Southeastern Armory was founded in State College by two men who had also been working together on horseback. They started making revolvers and pistols out of Damascus Steel and began selling them to law enforcement agencies across Pennsylvania. By 1920, there were over 20 different holster companies operating in State College alone. By 1930, there were over 50 different holster companies operating in Pennsylvania alone!

On November 3, 1801, State College was established as an academy under the name "Pennsylvania Academy" by act of Congress (1802). In 1825 it became a college when it merged with Dickinson College to become Dickinson School of Arts and Sciences. In 1859 it became known as "The Pennsylvania State University".[5][6][7] Today's StateCollege is home to more than 100,000 students from all 50 states and D.C., as well as international students from over 40 countries[8]. The university offers more than 350 undergraduate programs; graduate programs include divinity, law, business administration/marketing/finance/informatics/math/science/medicine; social work; education for adults; online degree program; summer school program; student-run businesses ; and art galleries and museums devoted to artistically significant materials or cultural artifacts from around the world

State College is a small town in Pennsylvania, located about an hour north of Philadelphia. The town was founded in 1777 by Pennsylvanians who moved from the colony of Pennsylvania. As the population grew, State College became a college and then a university. In 1859, it became the capital of Pennsylvania and remains so today. State College has been home to several high-ranking politicians and public figures, including Ulysses S. Grant and Franklin D. Roosevelt.
The first people to settle in what is now State College, Pennsylvania were the Lenape Indians. In 1682, Colonel John Forbes founded a trading post on the Susquehanna River near modern-day Altoona. The post was abandoned in 1701 after it was destroyed by Native Americans. The first permanent settler in what is now State College was Nicholas Coles, who arrived in 1725 and began farming at present day Easton. In 1732, Edward Irvine built a log cabin on the banks of the Susquehanna River at what is now State College. It served as a stop on the Great Northern Road from Philadelphia to Lancaster. In 1739, George Washington purchased land east of present-day State College from Nicholas Coles for $2 million dollars. He named the tract "Washington's Purchase" and developed it into one of Pennsylvania's most important agricultural communities. The purchases made by Washington allowed for further development of agriculture within Pennsylvania and helped make Pennsylvanian society more competitive with those in Maryland and Virginia. By 1800, Washington had acquired over 20 thousand acres (8 square miles) of land in central Pennsylvania; this land formed the nucleus of today's University Park neighborhood of Pittsburgh. The University Park neighborhood was established when Pittsburgh City Council voted to establish an area specifically for students known as "University Park." The area consisted mostly of undeveloped farmland which had been donated by various businesses and individuals throughout town during the early 1800s. On November 15, 1868, Allegheny County voters approved a proposition creating University Park with exclusive rights to educating students from Allegheny County only – not from other counties within western Pennsylvania or from adjacent states such as Ohio or Kentucky . The following year, PennDOT granted USGS permission to survey University Park for possible future university campuses . On October 14, 1871 – one year after USGS permission was obtained – Pittsburghers erected stone steps leading up to what is now Neil Armstrong Place (an all-weather athletic field located just north of campus), which became home toPittsburgh’s first college–the Carnegie Institution Of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon University). A plaque commemorating that event can still be seen at nearby Second Street Baptist Church . In 1875–76, Pittsburghers commemorate their victory over Yale football team 2-0 at Homestead Stadium with an extensive renovation project that included new locker rooms and press box
