The St. Marys Police Department has used tasers for over a decade now, first in the form of pepper spray and then as an alternative to physical force on suspects. In 2007, the department began using stun guns as well, after testing them out in a undercover operation. The use of tasers is currently authorized by the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections under specific circumstances. Although it was initially seen as a lesslethal option, taser use has since become more common due to its effectiveness and ease of application. As with any weapon, proper training is important for officers using tasers; however, there have been few incidents where officers have used them lethally or unintentionally. In October 2009, police were called to a house on Fayette Road in St. Marys after reports of people fighting inside. When they arrived they found three people - two men and one woman - who had started fighting while intoxicated. One officer discharged his stun gun at the woman before arresting her and taking her into custody without further incident (though she later required medical attention). In December 2009, police were called to an unconscious person on North Avenue in St. Marys after someone reported seeing someone with a gunshot wound (later confirmed to be unarmed). Officers arrived and found that the person was also unarmed but had been shot by another individual moments earlier during an altercation outside the home (this case also did not result in any injuries). In March 2010, officers responded to a report of shots fired from a vehicle on Easton Boulevard in St. Marys Township (the shooting took place near where current-day Interstate 95 meets).[1] Upon arrival, units discovered that two individuals - both men - had been shot and were deceased at the scene.(This event remains unsolved) Police departments across Pennsylvania are using tasers increasingly due to their decreasing chances of hitting targets with live rounds and their ability to be utilized more effectively when combined with other firearms technologies such as explosives-propelled grenades or chemical agents such as Mace or beanbag rounds (. However, there have been no fatalities or serious injuries involving these weapons since their inception; rather this has generally resulted in fewer complaints against officers than when traditional methods like pepper spray or handcuffs were employed originally. This is likely because residents are familiar with how these devices work and feel comfortable releasing detainees if they are apprehended without violence being enacted against them

St. Marys is a small town in Berks County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,834 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Reading area. The name comes from the Latin word "Mary", which means "beloved" or "dear." The first settlers in what would become St. Marys were German immigrants who arrived in 1795. In 1802, they erected a small log church on the site ofpresent-day St. Marys High School and named it after their patron saint, Mary. In 1825, a large stone church was erected on the same site and named for Blessed Virgin Mother of God by Bishop John McDonald of Philadelphia. In 1851, another large stone church was erected on this site and became known as Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church due to its proximity to Holy Mountain (Mount Carmel). This secondchurch served as the parish center until 1955 when it moved to nearby Allentown because of funding shortages caused by World War II and Korea. In 1951, Pope Pius XII declared that all Protestants should be re-registered with one Catholic Apostolic Vicariate under his jurisdiction--the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bethlehem-Easton--and so St.Marys Parish became part of that diocese's ecclesiastical province called Philadelphia–Allentown Province (). On July 15, 1962 ( Feast day of Our Lady Helping Hand), Archbishop Charles Hickey designated SaintMarys Cemetery as an Auxiliary Cemetery for use by Catholics adjacent to Allentown Cathedral where burials are not allowed outside Catholicism but within certain types of Protestant denominations (). Additionally, SaintMarys has been used as a film set for many movies located in Allentown including: 'The Revenant', 'Goodfellas', 'Philadelphia' and 'Mortal Engines'. The history of St. Marys, Pennsylvania can be traced back to the early 1800s. The community was first settled by German immigrants in the late 1700s and early 1800s. The town's name is derived from the Blessed Virgin Mary, who is said to have been born in the area. Saint Mary's Parish was established in 1779, and it quickly became a popular location for religious services. In 1811, President James K. Polk sent representatives to St.Marys to celebrate America's independence. During World War II, many Americans living in St.Marys served in the military or worked on local farms and businesses. In 1951, the parish merged with nearby Arlington Heights to form Arlington Township (later York County). Although some residents of both communities continued to reside within their respective borders until after they left for good during the 1970s and 1980s, most ofStmarys' population has since moved away or died off altogether." Today, Stmarys remains a small community located approximately 15 miles south of Harrisburg proper on I-70W between Chambersburg and Yorktown Heights as well as 10 miles east of Pittsburgh along Veterans Memorial Parkway/68th Avenue W between Butler Hills Cemetery and Mount Lebanon Cemetery." Like many other American towns during its heyday before World War II when people lived near each other but farmed their own land outside town limits - like Armstrongstown just east of Philadelphia - much about what makes Stmary’S unique still exists today: its finely tuned mix of Lutheranism with Catholicism; its tight-knit group identity built around religious services each Saturday morning at 8am; its steeple that can be seen from anywhere in town; and—most importantly—its deep sense of community involvement which persists even into today’S days despite all that has changed within commuting distance over time."

The first settlement in what is now St. Marys, Pennsylvania was made in 1724 by the Reverend John Holmes and his family. They named their new town after the Virgin Mary, who they claimed had appeared to them while they were traveling through the area. The town quickly grew, and by 1810 it had a population of around 100 people. It remained small until 1840, when it became the county seat of McKean County. In that year, thanks to the efforts of Captain John Saylor, St. Marys incorporated as a borough. By 1870, however, its population haddeclined to just over 60 people again. However, it regained some strength in the early 20th century thanks to immigration from Russia and other parts of Europe.
