In addition to his work at Morningside Parish Church, Father Daly also served as an assistant pastor at St. John's Chapel on Main Street in Strasburg Township and at Our Lady of Lourdes chapel on Third Street in Clearfield Township. Today, there are several priests serving as assistant pastors for the Saintmaryscommunity: Father Kevin Crowley (currently stationed at Our Lady Saints Parish),FatherJohn O'Reilly (currently stationed at Blessed Sacrament Parish), and Fathers Brendan McGowan (currently stationed at Stations Of The Cross Parish) among others. Many residents children attend local schools such as Clearfield Area High School or Ephrata Area High School which have been around since 1954 when both schools merged into one entity known as Clearfield Area School District No 9-A . As one of the most historic towns in Pennsylvania, St. Marys has a rich history that can be explored through its museums, churches and streets. The town was founded in 1781 by Quakers who were fleeing religious persecution in England. The original name for the town was "Nancy." In 1801, the town became part of Erie County and was renamed after Saint Mary of Hungary, an early Hungarian Christian leader. From 1824 to 1829, St. Marys served as thecapitalofErie County. In 1830, the county seat moved to Lewiston and St.Marys regained its capital status in 1831 when it became a borough within Erie County. The first church in St.Marys was built on what is now Market Street in 1781 by Reverend John Bentley from nearby Newtown Township (now Northumberland). It was soon abandoned due to lack of funding and replaced with a new building on First Street near what is now High School Avenue in 1785-87 under architect Ebenezer Giles. However, this church burned down less than two years later and never re-opened; it may have been destroyed by Indians during their war against the British forces occupying PA at this time. A second church called "Hercules" also burned down but according to legend it actually took fire because some children had placed an apple pie near the altarIgnatius Loyola Parishioner reported seeing “a great blaze issuing from both ends” – probably caused by heat from burning candles at services while seated at the altar or perhaps sparks flying off nails used for nails into pie crust! A third church located on present day Second Street started construction but unfortunately caught on fire before completion which left only ruins behind including a steeple still standing today! This also appears to be one of only two buildings remaining from Hercules Church complex that once stood along Market Street between Second and Third Streets! In addition to these three small churches there were several other places of worship established throughouttown over time such as: Anacreon Chapel (founded about 1800), Bethel Chapel (founded about 1800), Isaac Watts Chapel (founded about 1800) and finally Emanuelan Monastery built around 1850 which remains active today as Holy Family Catholic Church! All these churches combined likely served more people than any individual structure ever did! It should also be noted that many Quaker families who fled religious persecution returned home after England's Revolutionary War ended in 1660 AD so they too could experience religious freedom! There are even references to these refugees coming back home via letters written by some residents during this time period!! This community spirit seems especially pronounced when looking atStMariesStreet where numerous businesses have been located since its incorporation as a borough within Erie County!! Many prominent figures associated with various facets of Early American life have either lived or worked here such as James Kappenheimer (founder of Kappenheimer & Company insurance company), General George Washington, Benjamin Franklin etc!!! It truly is quite amazing how different aspects of our country's history can be found here despite being just 50 miles northwest OF Philadelphia!!
The first English settlers in what is now St. Marys, Pennsylvania were John Trimble and his family in 1681. The town was named for the Virgin Mary, who had been prayed to by the then-Governor of Maryland, Sir Christopher Witherspoon. The first courthouse in town was built in 1702 and was replaced in 1740 by a larger building that still stands today. In 1814, the United States acquired land east of present-day St.Marys from Great Britain and renamed it West Virginia; however, St.Marys remained an English community until 1869 when all English residents were required to speak American Sign Language at all government functions. A post office called St. Marys was established in 1827 and operated until 1909; its last letter being FJ on May 1, 1909. In 1865, a small school (later known as Mrs.'S') was opened near the current intersection of Main and Washington Streets; it served students grades K-12 from then until 1922 when it closed due to lack of enrollment after World War IFinancially supported schools became available throughout the town during this time period through a series of bond issues which also saw construction of new buildings on Church Street between First Avenue and Washington Street including Holy Cross High School which opened its doors on November 8th 1902
