In 1836, a group of men from St. Marys, Pennsylvania founded the first holster company in the United States. The company's founders were John A. Holster and George W. In 1802, the first Catholic Church in what is now Pennsylvania was erected on the site of what is now St. Marys. The church was built by Father Michael Ryan and served as the parish church for many years. It burned down in 1864 and again in 1892, but finally became a convent in 1907. Pope Pius X founded the Royal Canadian Legion in 1914 to support soldiers serving in World War I. The Legion grew quickly and soon had branches throughout Canada. In 1932, Pope Pius XI created a new order called the Sisters of Notre Dame de Montréal (Sisters of Notre Dame of Montreal) to help support French-speaking Catholics living in Quebec. The order continued to grow until it had chapters across North America by 1960. The Growth of Catholicism in Pennsylvania began with Father John Donohue’s work at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Chapel located on Penn’s Landing where he preached from 16 October 1861 until his death on 6 November 1865. From this chapel Father Donohue provided religious services for Catholics who could not attend Mass at home or traveling from place to place because their places of worship were closed because they were not Catholic enough or because they did not have an organ or proper vestments available for services. This service was known as “Donahue’s choirs” which functioned as outreach ministries to Protestant denominations also inside Penn’s Landing during that time period Although originally designed only for Catholics, these services eventually extended beyond just Catholicism and into other faiths as well Father John Donohue also founded two other chapels within Penn’s Landing: Our Lady's Chapel (1863) and Divine Mercy Chapel (1868). These chapels later became known colloquially as "the three Ms" due to their location along 3rd Street SW near McGill University Park where students would gather each day for devotions before going home

St. Marys was founded in 1723 by German Christians who had come to America as refugees from the Holy Roman Empire.
