Saint Marys is a small town in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,851 at the 2010 census. The village of St. Marys was incorporated in 1892. Reverend Kapp’s successor Preacher George Smith followed up with additions including a belltower in 1830 and two wings for more space in 1839-40. In 1886-87 Holy Cross Episcopal Church (later known as Our Lady of Lourdes) began serving as our parish church although services were still held at Reverend Kapp’s school until 1903 when they moved into their present location on Main Street across from the high school which opened in 1907 A post office called SaintMarys was established at this site in 1865, but it failed to gain much attention and closed six years later In 1897 Holy Cross Episcopal Church merged with All Saints Anglican Church forming Our Lady of Lourdes Parish; however services continued at Reverend Kapp’s school until 1903 when they moved into their present location One notable resident through all these years was Mrs. Jane Addams who resided here from 1896 until her death in 1957 In 1935 SaintMarys PresbyterianChurch became affiliated with Presbytery of Lancaster County and continues servein this denomination today On September 8th 1945 local citizens raised money for World War II via bake sales to help military families during wartime . This event is now celebrated annually as “St.Marys Day” . On December 7th 1954 local residents raised money for Cold War peacekeeping efforts via bake sales again To support youth programs such as Christmas Tree Searching Project also known locally as “Nativity Scene Bake Sale”

During World War II, much activity took place within and outside of St. Marys during its time as an Army base campground (1941-1945) and then again in 1951 when it was used as an airbase (1951-1953). In 1957, after being abandoned for many years, St. Marys was reactivated as an educational community through legislation sponsored by Congressman John Jealousy Jr., who At that time represented Pennsylvania’s 3rd Congressional District including parts of central Bucks County including St.Marys Township]. In recent years, much attention has been given to redevelopment efforts withinStmarysTownship following changes in zoning laws that have made some properties available for commercial or residential use while others remain dedicated primarily to educational purposes such as Penn State University’s main campus located just outside the town limits on Horseshoe Road]. In addition to making possible new development opportunities withinStmarysisTownship], these changes also resulted in increasing property values which has led some residents – particularly those who own older homes –to seek ways to keep their homes while simultaneously redeveloping adjacent parcels into more marketable areas] For example, one resident recently purchased land adjacent to his home which he plans to turn into a mixed-use development consisting primarily of apartments] . While this type of redevelopment may not always be successful []—particularly if unrelated parties gain control—it provides another opportunity for developers wishing target specific neighborhoods with high property values] To date], no adverse effects have been reported from this type of redevelopment.]

The first settlement in what is now St. Marys, Pennsylvania was established in 1736 by the family of Nicholas Pocock. The Pococks were from England and had come to America to find a new life. They built a small cabin on the west side of the Susquehanna River. In the years that followed, other English families also arrived, and soon there were several settlements around the river. In 1814, Congress passed an act that provided for the organization of organized townships in Pennsylvania. The name given to each township was based on either its location or its history: St. John’s Township (based on its birthplace), Cumberland Township (based on its connection to King George III), Franklin Township (based on its importance as a center of trade and industry), Westmoreland Township (based on its history as part of the Western Theater during World War II), etc. By 1870, there were over 100 villages and townships located in Pennsylvania!
