In 1903, St. Marys, Pennsylvania, was the site of the first open-air rifle shooting competition in the United States. The event was organized by a group of local gun enthusiasts and promoters, led by then-mayor John Fenton. In 1914, the first state rifle championship was held at this location and was won by George Armstrong Custer. After World War I ended, interest in firearms declined in America and several large gun manufacturers closed their plants in St. Marys; however, small arms still remained popular here because of its easy access to raw materials and skilled labor. In 1934, local gun owner Willis Wesson started manufacturing what is now known as "The Benjamin" handgun under his own name on Main Street in town. This sawoff style pistol became very popular among local farmers and hunters who used it for target practice or self-defense purposes. For many years it was considered one of the most powerful handguns available to civilians; however, over time it suffered from various issues such as poor assembly or function due to its handmade construction methods. In 1949, a group of locals decided to start a modern firearm manufacturing plant called Firearms Unlimited Inc., which would continue production of firearms until 1998 when it merged with other companies to form Remington Arms Corporation (RAI). At RAI's peak production levels—roughly 1 million pistols per month—the company had an impact on firearm culture across America through its marketing campaigns and development of innovations like trigger pullers and magazine disconnectors that would later be adopted by other brands. During RAI's heyday guns were often seen as symbols of masculinity: cowboy hats were common at events where they were exhibited; men could go into any store in town and buy them there! However, after RAI went bankrupt in 1998 following the admission into federal bankruptcy court by its owners that they had been fabricating firearms for sale throughout much of their history—a fact that had not been disclosed to consumers—firearm sales began to plummet all over America due again to fears that these products might have been fake or counterfeit from beginning to end! As recently as 2018 some researchers found more than 73% of all American firearm sales between 1997-2018 were FAKE!!!

In the early 1800s, many people in what is now St. Marys, PA were immigrants from all over Europe. There was a large Irish population, as well as Poles and other eastern European immigrants. The town was originally called Czestochowa (a Polish name meaning "Stratholme"). The first Catholic church in the area was built in 1810 on the site of an earlier Protestant Meeting House. The congregation soon grew to include many Catholics from surrounding towns and villages. In 1824, the original Parish Church of St. Marys (now buried within the parish) was dedicated by Bishop John Hughes of Pittsburgh. As Catholics began to arrive in increasing numbers throughout Pennsylvania during the 19th century, they organized their own parishes and churches accordingly. By 1830, there were three separate Catholic Churches located in St. Marys: Our Lady's Parish School was built that year; Immaculate Conception Parish (later renamed Holy Rosary Parish) opened its doors in 1832; and Saint Joseph's Parish finally erected its first church on North Front Street in 1835-36). St. Marys experienced rapid growth following America's admission into Confederation as a nation on July 4, 1776! New families poured into the small town en masse due to new opportunities for wealth and advancement available due to our newly founded country's growing industrial base and rapidly expanding trade with foreign countries! Businesses flourished thanks to increased demand for goods produced by American workers abroad! Many shops and businesses closed down during this time because of economic depression brought about by war costsrising prices for materials needed for wartime production such as steel and rubber products etcetera!. However, through prayerful self-sufficiency while surrounded by hard times, many citizens persevered until late 1917 when World War I ended without any hostilities taking place within our borders!!! Many residents who had taken up arms against their government or otherwise sided with Allied forces during World War I also lost everything they had - including homes and businesses! Consequently, a significant number of local Catholics decided it would be best not to return home afterriegelike conditions reigned victoriously outside their doorsteps!!! Only a few hundred souls returned back home at this point due to political/social reasons related mainlyto religion... Generally speaking however though most citizens chose repatriation because they found returning home more difficult than remaining stationary out there!! Afterward various organizations sprang up spearheadedby individuals/groupsof localCatholics wantingto helpformer Residentsrebuildtheirlivesandestablish anew social order!! These initiatives included helping businesses reopen whichbroughtbacksome prosperitybutalsoinvolvedoccasionsofheartacheandlossfamiliarwiththepreviousorderliness!! Most notably one group led by Father Edward Keane who set up shop inside his parish housebelievinghecouldhelpnewResidentscatchupwiththeold Orderlieseekinghelp!! Eventually Keane became infamousforhis outreach program knownas “Brother Edward’s Scheme” which consisted of giving away free food items(usually meat or potatoes)at participating stores frequentedby ordinary residentsin an effort to build community spirit amongst them !! Despite setbacks facedduringthistime periodmanyCatholicscontinuedworkingッ Houselessnesswasstill prevalentamongthemdue largelytoweatherproblemscausedbywarmatterssuchas lackofthereparishhousesbeing BuiltNumeroussmall Scalebusinesseswere still operating notwithstanding!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In 1764, the Potomac River was first drained by means of a canal. The area now known as St. Marys was part of Westmoreland County until 1795, when it became part of Cumberland County. In 1814, the county was divided into three parts, and St. Marys became a separate town in each division. On July 4, 1871, both towns merged to form one town - still called St. Marys - with a population of 10,000 people.
