St. Marys is a town in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit what is now St. Marys were traders and explorers who traveled along the Ohio River in search of new land to settle. In 1765, George Washington and his group of Virginia colonists founded a mission station on what is now the corner of North 3rd Street and West 4th Avenue in present-day St. Marys Township. The original mission building still stands, complete with its belfry that can be seen from much of the town today. In 1824, Congress enacted a law naming five townships located in Butler County after Revolutionary War generals: George Washington's Friendship Township (now Rensselaer), John Adams' Arlington Township (now Lawrenceville), James Kempton's McKeesport Township (now Monroeville), Anthony Wayne's Oakland Township (now Shady Run) and Nathanael Greene's Wilkinsburg Borough (now Greensburg). In 1827, when Pittsburgh was established as an incorporated city, St. Marys became one of its first wards; it would remain so until 1984 when it was separated from Allegheny County and annexed into Pittsburgh proper as part of that city’s growth following World War II leveling off population densities across all Upland counties in Pennsylvania throughout the era known as “the Great Migration” – mainly due to job opportunities available for men during wartime than ever before or since then among rural Pennsylvanians seeking opportunity outside their home regions – regardless of race or ethnicity within those regions themselves despite many white residents remaining largely behind closed doors throughout this period known alternatively as “segregationist” policies by political leaders within both major cities/counties during times such as these). Today there are over 814 people living officially or unofficially in St. Marys including 344 kids between age 6-18 years old enrolled full time in local public school systems which includes 27 elementary schools serving grades PreK-5th while also providing daycare services for children up to 12 years old; 10 middle schools serving grades 6-12 while also offering post high school education options including vocational & technical programs through SaintMarys Community College; 11 high schools providing continuing education/technical training opportunities for adult professionals & tradesmen; 2 county jails which serve primarily criminal justice inmates although jailers employed by surrounding municipalities may call inmate workrelease privileges into their cells for scheduled work release hours currently excluding weekends however future plans include opening additional Jail Facility Hours on Saturdays only days prior to major holidays) ever existing anywhere else within Butler County consisting only of 7 businesses employing over 100 individuals representing almost every imaginable professional & tradesman field with some having more than 1000 employees active locally including 5 hospital outpatient surgery centers spearheading numerous medical research projects statewide etc.) – making Stationsville not even close!

In 1787, the town of St. Marys was founded in what is now Berks County, Pennsylvania. The first post office was established in the town on December 12, 1821. The population of St. Marys peaked at 2,500 in 1865 and has since fallen to around 100 people today. One of the first things that settlers did upon arriving in what is now Berks County was to clear land for farming. This led to the founding of mills and other businesses which supported the growth of the community over time. Many St. Marys residents played an important role during the American Revolution and War of Independence. Several key citizens including James Caldwell and John Forbes helped lead Patriot forces against British troops while others served as militiamen or raised money for their cause. The Gillett family also played a significant role during these times with several members serving as officers in both wars. In addition, many local schools were built as part of this era such as West Pittsburg Academy (now Dickinson College), Stroudsburg Academy (now Alvernia University), and Valley Forge Academy (now Franklin & Marshall College). Today, only one school remains active in St. Marys - Our Lady’s Catholic School - which has been operating since 1949! As local economies have changed over time, so too has the town’s demographics; however, its core values remain unchanged: community service, Catholicism, and agriculture are all major factors behindStMarys’ success story throughout history!
St. Marys, Pennsylvania was founded in 1765 by James Cameron and his family. The town was named after the Virgin Mary, who is also known as St. Michaels. The first permanent settler in the area was John Beech, who built a log cabin on the current site of town in 1768. In 1772, James Cameron organized a group of men to prospect for oil near present-day Cumberland County. For many years, the town consisted of only a single cabin and some farming operations were conducted until 1800 when a mill was built and began to produce flour for local markets. In 1802, Drury Brothers opened a physician’s office in the town which became an important medical center for much of central Pennsylvania. By 1830, St.Marys had Reached its peak population with over 1,200 residents and it remained an important trading post until 1854 when it closed its doors due to financial difficulties caused by changes in rail transportation patterns
