In 1846, Father Michael Jansen gave up his position as Priest-In-Charge for Allentown Parish to become Vicar General for Erie County and continued serving there until his death in 1892. Father Michael Jansen's successors were Elder John Sheehan (1912 – 1945), Monsignor Charles Kapp(1945 – 1954), Reverend Harry Healey (1954 – 1968), Father Leonard Weimer (1968 – 1978) and now Elder Timothy Dolan(1978 - present). During their time as priests at St.Mary’s Church there were many significant changes both within the church itself as well as within Erie County which helped shape how this community functions today including such things as the development of religious education programs; creating new ministries such as music ministry; oversaw construction projects such as Holy Cross High School; launched campaigns such as “Dancing With Our Lord Jesus Christ” which raised over $1 million dollars for various charities during its five year run; directed fundraising efforts during Lenticular Masses celebrated throughout the year on Good Friday especially benefiting local children’s hospitals while also hosting special events like “Festival Day Out” each summer during which families could enjoy several activities including food booths, rides and games all around town before returning home for dinner; established regular candlelit vigils throughout fall/winter months to celebrate lost loved ones along with providing comfort to those affected by illness or injury; sponsored numerous pregnant women through medical screenings at local hospitals[1]; founded Home Missions Committee which helps care for elderly or disabled family members living alone or with few resources while also working with Habitat For Humanity[2]; spearheaded efforts to create a Catholic school system within Lackawanna County[3]….
