The town's growth came about due to its location on the Susquehanna River and its easy access to transportation such as steamboats and wagons that transported goods from Harrisburg to Philadelphia and thence downriver to Baltimore and points east. Sharon continued to grow throughout the 19th century thanks to both manufacturing and agriculture businesses that operated there such as Flour Mill #1 (established 1854), Shoe Factory (1857), Cheese Factory (1860), Lumber Yard (1861), Grain Elevator (1862) and more. In 1903, after years of planning by community leaders, Sharon became an incorporated municipality with a mayor-council government form of government which continues today. Additionally, Sharon has enjoyed many cultural amenities over the years including theater, music festivals, art shows and much more!

Sharon, Pennsylvania is a small town located in the Lehigh Valley in eastern Pennsylvania. The population was 3,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Allentown-Easton-Munford, PA metropolitan statistical area. The first settlers to Sharon were farmers who arrived in 1795. By 1828, there were about seventy people living in Sharon; by 1840, the population had grown to 1,000. In 1845, a post office was established in Sharon and it continued to serve until 1925. The town was named for Captain Israel Sharon of the U.S. Marines who fought slavery on ships off Cuba during the Mexican–American War (1846-48). At that time, many people from Allentown and Easton decided to move westward because of growing concerns about slavery in Mexico and Texas and fears that war would break out between those countries over control of those areas of America. In 1868, A&P grocery store opened up shop in Sharon and quickly became one of the most popular stores in town. That same year saw an influx of new residents as a result of construction projects related to railroad construction through the town center - including a addition to First Presbyterian Church which doubled as a schoolhouse; additional buildings were built around this time including an insurance company building (now known as Manger's Drug Store), two barns (now used as home storage units), and three residences: One called "New Home" still stands today adjacent to First Presbyterian Church; another house now resides on Third Street between Second Avenue and Market Street; while another house on Fourth Street near Fourth Avenue served as barracks for military forces during World War I (1915-1916). In 1923, when it became apparent that steel production would take off throughout Eastern Pennsylvania due to increased demand from automotive manufacturers outside of Philadelphia/ Textile Center City proper following World War I, development plans accelerated for what would become known as "the Steel Town". Ground was broken for what would become our current four-story brick courthouse/ jail building on Main Street near Third Avenue on November 15th 1924 - just weeks before Christmas! The $50K cost associated with this project represented one third of all funds raised by local boosters during THAT YEAR'S annual county fair celebration! The fairgrounds then functioned both as village green where games such as cricket or baseball were played among residents & visitors alike & also served various other purposes such as dances & pageants over years ensuing... Today you can visit this once thriving community located within minutes’ walk from downtown Allentown viaMain Street corridor which offers excellent shopping opportunities anchored by several high end retailers including Macy's Department store1.. 2
Sharon, Pennsylvania was organized as a town in 1824 and became the capital of the United States in 1827. The city was named for General James Lancaster, who fought in the Battle of Yorktown and helped lead the charge that drove British forces from Virginia.
