Sharon, Pennsylvania is a small town located in the Lehigh Valley region of the United States. The population was 3,595 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Allentown-Easton-Muncie, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. Sharon's first gun barrels were made by Armstrong and Company in 1824. The company started making barrels for shotguns and pistols in 1829. By 1865, Armstrong had become a subsidiary of Winchester Repeating Arms Company. The company made rifles from 1876 to 1954. In 1954, Winchester merged with Remington Arms Company and all other rifle companies were divested except Armstrong which continued to make shotguns until 1958 when it too merged into Remington Arms Company The Sharon gun barrels are most well known for their use in handguns such as revolvers and pump guns. The early shotgun barrels were not as strong as later designs so they needed to be replaced frequently due to damage or failures caused by user error or weather conditions. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area and the all-time most populous municipality in Butler County. The town was formed from parts of two other towns: Northumberland and Easton. Northumberland had been founded by Welsh settlers in 1795, while Easton was founded by Scotch-Irish immigrants in 1802. Sharon was named for Philemon Sharon, an Englishman who operated a tannery here in the late 1700s. Sharon's early history is filled with stories of pioneers who traveled to this land to start anew and make their mark on this new frontier. One such pioneer was John Stephenson, who arrived in 1812 and built his first home on Prospect Street just south of present day Market Square. Stephenson helped lay out what is now Sharon Township and he also served as its first postmaster. In 1816, Stephenson married Martha Blankenship; they would have six children together before she died five years later at age 27 due to tuberculosis acquired during her pregnancy. In 1824, Another settler named George Lynch moved into what is now Township 3 north of present day Market Square and started a general store called The Buffaloes which attracted many travelers along Route 9 from Allegheny County looking for goods to trade or purchase during their stay in this newly founded township east of Pittsburgh across Monongahela River In 1830 (the same year that PA statehood took place), another Englishman named Edwin White purchased land adjacent to where today’s Elmwood Road lies off Routes 9 & 30 outside ofEaston (now known as Westmoreland). White built what are now several homes here including one still standing today – The White House – which later became known as “The Belltower” after Mrs. White’s daughter led an effort to have it listed on the National Register of Historic Places . At some point between 1830-1835 (or even earlier according to one source) David Pugh moved onto land located east northeast cornerofpresentdayMarketSquareandnorthwest cornerof ProspectStreeteffectivellycompletingthefusionofthespatulasstownswithNorthumberlandtowardsPostville Sharon experienced major growth during the mid 1800s when various railroadroads were laid through its rural areas providing access for people living near these important transportation hubs like eastern anthracite coal mines closer to cities like Pittsburgh or Erie but also creating opportunities for farmers growing crops near rail lines . Many businesses opened up around these industrial centers such as stores such as Jardine Brothers Hardware established in 1875 followed by Smith Barney Coffee house open 1895 & Barnes Drug Store 1897 before becoming Macy’s department store 1955 until it closed 1990 . During this time Sharon developed into a small town with multiple churches , schools , pails water fountains & more! Pioneers didn't stop moving here either! After Railroading stopped coming through town (likely because there weren't any anymore) people turned towards farming instead so much so that today’s Cross Keys subdivision forms primarily from agricultural land along Route 22

The first European settlers in Sharon arrived from Scotland in 1795 and built a log cabin on the present-day site of Sharon Center. In 1827, John Armstrong moved to Sharon from Perrysburg and opened what became Armstrong's grocery store which would become one of the most successful stores in western Pennsylvania. In 1829, Armstrong married Sarah Crouse and moved to Sharon with her; they raised six children there. In 1830, the first school was organized in Sharon by Reverend James Sutherlin and taught grade school until 1837 when it was replaced by a gristmill that served as the town's water supply. A post office called "Sharon" was established in 1838 but no mail reached it until 1840 when Rev Wm Henson sent an express package to Philadelphia containing a letter from President James Kinsley expressing his congratulations on being elected governor of Ohio. That same year, Mr & Mrs J F Powell came to town and started the first Methodist Church west of Allegheny Mountains In 1861-1862 three members of Congress traveled through Butler County on their way to ride out slavery issues during the American Civil War including Congressman Thaddeus Stevens who stayed at Armstrong's home for dinner May 12th 1861 night before continuing his journey Sharon had its peak population around 1900 with over 100 residents when two world wars brought large numbers of men and women into town giving it an extra boost during World War II In 1951-1953 two local girls were crowned Miss Universe USA while located in neighboring Perrysburg
