He also operated a tannery and later became one of the largest landowners in Butler County with over 1 million acres (4 km²). In 1905 James' son-in-law Daniel Treadway acquired most of what remain today of Averill's holdings including much of present day Pottsville Township including some homes dating back to 1765 that still stand today within its boundaries From 1865 until 1971 all public schools were run byaveschool district; however when that system fell apart due to lack of funding pottersvillians formed their own school board which lasted until 1974 . After years without an adequate school building or playground our current two high schools were built additionnally to Building #2 following successful fundraising efforts spearheaded by Mrs./Mr./Ms./Dr.(most recently) Donna Ladd during her time as superintendent
