Pottsville is an agricultural town with a focus on corn, wheat, soybeans, dairy products, and other farming activities. Pottsville's history dates back to 1795 when John Potts founded the town of Bethlehem on his farm in what is now Pottsville. After planting potatoes in nearby Monroe Township (now Westmoreland), Johnpott sold the land to George Washington for $1 million in 1799. The first industry in Pottsville was agriculture; however, this began to change after World War II when heavy manufacturing started arriving from Pennsylvania and other states. This led to a shift from subsistence farming to commercial production of goods that can be consumed by local residents. Today pottery making continues as one of the town's most popular industries; however, many businesses have closed since 2000 due to economic decline and competition from surrounding suburbs. The name "Pottersville" comes from two places: one was a grant given by James Iredell (the founder of South Carolina) to Sir Isaac Newton in 1684 for his work on calculus; and another refers to Nicholas-Jacques Conte who settled there about 1700 following his expulsion from France for religious beliefs that were considered heretical by some Catholics. In 1801 Samuel Morse established a branch station at Newtown where he transmitted signals over short distances using small copper wire instead of traditional methods such as drums or harpsichord keys/pipes used then which could be heard up to 100 miles away The townsite which lay along White Road east of present-day Meadowlark Avenue was laid out by George Stephenson between 1802-04 while he service job as surveyor for General Andrew Jackson near Knoxsborough Landing on Little York River opposite modern day Richmond Heights Railroad lines were built through the area including those leading north into Philadelphia County and south into Bucks County during this time In 1850 Stephen Foster moved his millinery business from Easton into what is now PottsVILLE after purchasing 6 acres along White Road east of Meadowlark Avenue Foster became known as “The Father Of American Music” because he developed new methods for producing records soundproofed inside large vaults where they remained unplayable outside until around 1920 However much earlier than this it has been reported that Indian traders landing at Kittatinny Point in 1775 had discovered valuable coal seams under what are now Springdale Boulevard and Old Chester Pike within sight of today’s town center . Coal mining operations began immediately adjacent thereto with concern being raised about water shortages caused by surface water seepage Lansing Creek running through part of today’s township but no significant deposits were ever discovered resulting in abandoned mines continuing access until well into the 20th century Although there have been periodic efforts over recent years spearheaded by various organizations such as Friends Of Springdale Creek – Inc., PA Water Action Committee etc.(See map below)to bring attention & developments related thereto… nothing definitive has materialized thus far

Pottsville was founded by Dutch settlers in 1682. The area became part of the United States in 1776, and Pottsville's first Mayor was George Washington. The town was destroyed by a fire in 1834, but was rebuilt and renamed Pottsville after its original founder, John Potts. The population of Pottsville reached 10,000 in 1868 and peaked at 25,000 in 1928. However, the population has decreased steadily since then and currently stands at 3,500.
