The Pottsville Rifle and Pistol Club was founded in 1869. In 1897, the club changed its name to the Pottsville Rifle and Pistol Association and organized a rifle range on the east side of town. The first modern pistol match was held at this range in 1903.
Pottsville is a small town located in Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Pottsville was founded in 1755 by Moses Potter and his wife Sarah. In 1824, it became a full borough within Philadelphia. Pottsville has two post offices: Pottsville and West Chesterfield. The borough had a population of 11,546 as of the 2010 census. The history of Pottsville goes back to 1755 when Moses Potter and his wife Sarah founded the town on land that they purchased from the Lenape Indians. The first settler in Pottsville was John Armstrong who arrived in 1768. By 1800, there were three stores in the town with 100 residents and seven churches serving the community which included Presbyterianism and Methodistism. In 1824, under Mayor Jeremiah Hume, potters decided to becomeavers rather than traders because trading allowed them to control their trade routes while also exploiting Native American resources such as wild corn and tobacco growing on their land. Accordingly, they organized themselves into a trade guild which became known as "The Potterites." After some struggles against federal forces during the War for Independence, they finally achieved independence in 1847 thanks to Abraham Lincoln's signing of an act acknowledging their incorporation into Pennsylvania as a borough with voting rights alongside other municipalities within Philadelphia County). In 1907, white farmers from nearby Upper Darby began settling near Pottsville after purchasing land east of what is now Uniontown Township from Indian tribesmen who had been forced to sell it at low prices due to government interventionist policies enacted during Andrew Johnson's presidency (in what is now Bucks County). These new settlers built large frame houses on rolling hills overlooking the Susquehanna River Valley that remain today one of its most distinguishing features despite having lost much of its original rural character over time (the largest house still standing today was built by James Hickey around 1912). During World War II service members living or working at Drexel University served food duty throughout central PA including portions of Pottsville; some non-veterans even collected produce for local grocery stores during this time period through Operation Sunburst which ran from late May until early October 1944

The Pottsville School District was established in 1870, and continues to provide education to residents of Pottsville. The town also boasts a variety of cultural attractions, including the Pottsville Playhouse, which opened in 1954.
