Pottstown, Pennsylvania is a borough in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 5,713 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. In 1777 Pottsborough was founded by Captain James Pott and his family as a small trading post on the Susquehanna River between Huntingdon Valley and Berks County. Pottsborough became an incorporated town in 1828. In 1881, it merged with neighboring Bethlehem to form the larger city of Bethlehem-Pottstown. The community of Pottsboro developed around its water supply which came from two small creeks that flow through the town: Shady Run and Clear Run. These creeks provided potable water for locals and travelers for centuries until municipal treatment facilities were built in the early 21st century. The first settler in Pottsboro was John Waddell who arrived there on July 3, 1777 with his family from Grantham, England. He named his tract of land "Pottsborough" after Captain James Pott who had transported goods overland from America to support British forces during the American Revolution. Captain James Pott's family mined coal here until about 1800 when they moved their operations to nearby Monroeville because of improved transportation methods and increased demand for coal in Philadelphia due to construction activities associated with Andrew Johnson's presidency (1865-1897). By 1830 there were more than 100 residents living in Pottsboro; however, by 1850 only 14 people lived there permanently while another 26 families resided temporarily or intermittently until they left for other parts of Schuylkill County during industrialization throughout Schuylkill County starting around 1840s which led to decline/ vanishing demographic values within Pottsboro over time due increasing suburbanization/ commuting choices available closer to surrounding municipalities such as Reading Township (then called Shamokin) Industrial growth took center stage beginning around 1860s when sawmills began operating along Clear Run Road at what is now known as Goodrich Avenue within walking distance of many residences culminating with six large mills operated by Atchison & Topeka Railway Company – three located near present day Center Township and three further east located just outside present day Pottsborough village limits - this rapid expansion caused rapidly diminishing local population values leading eventually to abandonment of much older residential buildings within today’s boundaries upriver from downtown Pitkinville Junction This process gradually unfolded across all industries but especially among heavy industry where influxes of menial labor often created high levels OF social unrest and ultimately social ruin which contributed materially both directly and indirectly to Decline/Vacancy Rates within inner rural areas overall characterized by accelerated suburbanification processes Although declines have been seen particularly since 1960s following creation / opening of suburbs adjacent unto major cities resulting in dramatic increases NEPA values per capita within inner rural areas today compared To preindustrial period Values; nonetheless these trends remain largely unaltered given current Millionaire status & investment opportunities available nearby

Pottstown (Pa.) is a small town in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,812 at the 2010 census. It is the seat of Westmoreland County. Pottstown was founded in 1756 by Captain John Smith as a small trading post on the Susquehanna River. The present site of Pottstown was laid out in 1800 by Colonel George Washington and named for Benjamin Pott, an early settler in the area. In 1838, Pottstown became the county seat of Westmoreland County and remains so to this day. The first settlers of what would become Pottstown were farmers who arrived around 1695 with John Rutherford and his family from Northumberland County, England. They built their house on land that they acquired along the Susquehanna River near where it now stands. By 1756, Captain John Smith had established a small trading post at what is now called "Potsdam" on the river's eastern bank opposite present-day Bethlehem Township while he continued to trade with Native Americans and other Europeans living along the riverbank. In 1800, Colonel George Washington came across these early settlers when he conducted an exploration through Westmoreland County looking for new territory for Virginia Colony; he named particular areas such as Cumberland Valley and Beaver Counties after himself or his friends and associates who had accompanied him on this important exploration including James Robertson (of Princeton) and Arthur Stiles (of nearby Yorktown). These names later became part of local communities throughout western Pennsylvania including those located in what are now Lebanon Valley, Wexford Township, Berks County and Altoona Borough which were all formed from portions of existing counties during nineteenth century consolidation process following American Revolution; see also: Pottsgrove Township - original name of borough created from part of Reading Borough in 1794; Mifflinburg - original name of borough created from parts of Bethlehem Township in 1798; Whitehall - original name of borough created from part of Downingtown Township in 1800). Captain John Smith's small trading post functioned primarily as a stopover on trips downstream to get goods available upriver for transportation upstate to Williamsburg via canoe or ship. This location provided convenient access to both natural resources like timber needed for building homes back then – especially valuable woodchips – as well as water power necessary for mills powered by canals running downstream towards Williamsburg Mills complex which still operates today providing jobs today among many people who remember how this complex used to look more than two hundred years ago! Pottstown was founded in 1771 as a small town in the Susquehanna Valley. The first settlers were Dutch and they named the town after Potts Hill, a high mountain location in North Carolina. Pottstown grew quickly and became an agricultural center with large plantations of tobacco, corn, potatoes, apples, and other crops. In 1824, the Pennsylvania Railroad was built through the valley and Pottstown began to grow rapidly as a commuter town. In 1916, Pottstown was incorporated as a borough and has remained an independent municipality ever since.
