Pottstown is a small town in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 5,690 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Pottstown was founded in 1753 by Benjamin Pott as a small trading post on the Susquehanna River. In 1800, it became the capital of Bucks County and was renamed to its current name in 1802 after General George Washington's headquarters were moved from nearby Independence Hall to Pottstown. The community continued to grow rapidly during the 19th century with many new buildings being erected including a Masonic Lodge in 1872 and a Catholic Church in 1902. In 1907, the Pennsylvania Railroad built a line through Pottstown linking it with nearby Philadelphia and made it an important transportation hub for Bucks County residents and businesses. This increased economic development and contributed to the growth of Pottstown over time. During World War II, Pottstown saw significant military activity as thousands of troops were sent here for service in both World War I and World War II. Many local businesses benefited from this wartime effort such as munitions production plants operated by Bethlehem Steel Company and DuPont de Nemours & Company; clothing manufacturers Stroud Mills Incorporated (now JRS Corporation) and Eastern Mills Corporation; shipyards Wagner Shipyard No 2 (now known as Little America Shipbuilding), Harold Cunard Line Ltd., Pennzoil Corporation, Litton Industries Incorporated (later Unilever plc.), Schlumberger Limited (later AIG Group) among others. In 1945, following Germany's surrender, most of these businesses closed down due to wartime restrictions on business activities imposed by Allied forces following Japan's victory over Germany that same year. The Community Building located at 301 Main Street which served as various shops until 1978 when it caught fire caused extensive damage which required restoration work costing $2 million dollars which was completed in 2001 In 1984-1985 prior to construction starting on FirstEnergy Center Phase 1/2 - now known as CoreConcerts – there was also construction taking place on what would become later known as North Parkland Park located near junction of North Pike & West Camden Streets across from FirstEnergy Center Phase 1/2 . This park included baseball diamonds, tennis courts etc.. During that time there also existed plans for what would become known as South Parkland which never came about due to opposition from adjacent property owners who felt that their land would be taken away should the park be built

Pottstown, Pennsylvania is a town in McKean County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 5,780 at the 2010 census. It lies south of the Reading Valley and east of Hazleton. Pottstown was first settled in 1712 by John Pott and his family. The name is derived from Potts Creek which flows through the town. In 1814, Pottstown became part of Readington Township when it was created from parts of Hazleton and McKean counties. The first settler in Pottstown, William Pope, arrived in 1784 and built a cabin on what is now Second Street. On March 14, 1800, George Washington visited Pottstown while touring the region for his inauguration as President of the United States; he stopped at Pope's cabin to rest before continuing on his journey. In 1821, when readied to become a state capital under the emerging American Republic system, Pittston saw its golden opportunity when Judge John Cochran sold him 8 acres (3 ha) of land near present-day Market Square for $5 per acre ($100 per hectare). That same year also saw the founding of Mechanics Institute (now Penn State Behrend College), which offered an education to working class men without college degrees. In 1827-28 surveyor Elijah McCoy surveyed and laid out streetscape for what would become modern-day downtown Pottstown with some assistance from Prime Minister Sir John Acheson during World War I effort to win support for America’s war efforts among European nations via propaganda broadcasts over short wave radio stations like WEAF (later WNTA). The population growth that followed rapid industrialization led to increased demand for housing – resulting in construction of many buildings throughout downtown including two churches: First Baptist Church on Third Street corner Fifth Avenue and Christ Episcopal Church on Fourth Street corner Sixth Avenue between 1836-1868; these churches were replaced by newer structures after several years due largely to fire code requirements set forth by city fathers in response to increasing numbers of homes being built without proper commercial or fire escapes etc.. One early example can be seen today at 224 Main Street across from Olde High School where brick building erected about 1830 containing 24 rooms facing Broadwalk/Market Streets appears never had any windows except ones above doorways leading into garages bearing similar design - this type of structure then common throughout 19th century US cities... This pattern continued until 1860 when all new buildings were designed according as single story rectangles with one window fronting Broadwalk/Market Streets with other windows facing angles towards Center Street (now North Main Street)... According Potsdam Business Improvement District No 2 website "In 1948 there were only 12 small businesses left within Downtown Pittston" Today's downtown includes many popular tourist destinations such as Market Square Shopping Center - home to boutiques such as H&M Winners Factory Outlet Store & Michaels Music Department since 1982 - Aschaffenburg Brewery Tours open every day 9am-4pm going up 4 floors ~500 feet underground leaving behind 3 amazing breweries along way~ Powell's Unloadment Mall closed down in 2000 but reopened as an indoor/outdoor mall with nearly 100 stores including Macy's department store & JCPenney! As you walk around you'll notice high walls surrounding many areas making it almost feel like an active military base! During World War II various industries such as munitions production took place within Lady Liberty Arsenal located off Southgate Boulevard just northampton street side near current day intersection Of Northampton St./Southgate Blvd., former site of Bethlehem Steel Company Plant’s smelting operations well known locally & nationally for their intensely blackened coins used by U.S Military personnel during WWII... Today’s area contains a mix multiuse redevelopment projects including: residential development called “Allegheny Hills” featuring over 160 units slated originally for sale starting at $225K each; business park complete with office space/retail anchor tenants adjacent thereto; steel fabrication plant consisting primarily of manufacture & erection thereof facing Allegheny Riverfront currently undergoing environmental impact assessment awaiting final permitting scheduledfor late 2019 or 2020... The town grew rapidly, and by 1800 it had a population of about 1000 people. In 1812, Pottstown became part of the United States after the Treaty of Ghent was ratified. During the American Revolution, Pottstown was one of the most active towns in Pennsylvania. It supported the Continental Army and played an important role in the Battle of Saratoga. After the war, many businesses closed down because of lack of business opportunities. However, some residents kept their businesses open until after World War II. Pottstown is home to several museums including The Pottsburg Historical Museum, which preserves local history; The John Fetterman House Museum; and The Pottsburg Agricultural Museum/Museum Of Technology & Industry
