In 1854, Pottstown became an incorporated municipality within boroughs ofPhiladelphia because its population had increased so rapidly that no single borough could support all its residents. On November 15, 1855, Borough of Philadelphia passed an ordinance creating a new independent township called Pottstown which would become one of 12 townships within Philadelphia proper; this ordinance provided for voting representation for each township's 3-member board of Chosen People (or "boardmen"). In 1860s large quantities of coal were discovered near present-day Allentown and neighboring Bethlehem; these mines led to large investments by various companies in mining equipment and labor such as John Drexel & Sons Coal Company who bought about 25% interest in Pottsborough Coal Company Ltd., proprietor thereof since 1695; other early owners included Robert Morris Jr., Jameson Todd & Sons (later Jardine Matheson), David Starr Livingston & Bros., George Washington Carver Sr., etcetera which continued operations into 1912 including most notably his grandson George Washington Carver Jr.. Over time many small businesses also grew up around pottery making potters' clay products such as Potteries Unlimitednow run by descendantsofthe original founders although production has decreased significantly due to competition from newer manufacturing processes; spinning wheel manufacture started out too but now mainly uses electronic machines rather than traditional hand spinning techniques Many new neighborhoods have been erected around downtown over time including: Arts District - home to several theaters including Lincoln Financial Field Arena and Philbrook Theater district - once home to major department stores like Sears Roebuck and JCPenney located on Market Street before being razed c1930s following consolidation with nearby buildings nearer Center City Further east along Broad Street still some remaining brick buildings dating back from pre-industrial days including: Moynihan’s Brewery – today operates as Moynihan’s Irish Pub - built c1820 on property formerly occupied by Continental Hotel which later became known as Russian Cathedral building - business closed 1905 but reopened again c 1925 under current name Ukrainian National Realty Inc . . . . . Now part of rebranded Consulate General Corporation
