Plum, Pennsylvania is a town in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 7,848 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Allentown-Easton-Mifflin Metropolitan Statistical Area. Plum was founded by John Plum in 1799 and named for his ancestor Sir John Plumeter who settled in what is now Plumstead Township in 1723. The first settlers were men from New York and Pennsylvania who arrived on horseback during the Whiskey Rebellion of 1810. They built log cabins and began to cultivate land. In 1828, three brothers purchased 120 acres (50 ha) of land north of present-day Plum and started to grow corn, wheat, potatoes and apples there. They also built a mill which they operated until it burned down in 1862. In 1881, William Hagerty organized the Borough of Allentown with plums as its nucleus; this became an independent municipality on July 1, 1901 when Bethlehem Township was annexed into Allentown. On February 15, 1914, all township offices except those located within borough boundaries were moved to new buildings situated south of Market Street between Elmira Avenue and Walnut Street in downtown Allentown; these buildings still stand today as part of the Municipal Building complex which includes the library (1901), fire department (1914), police force (1968), jail (1966), post office (1868) and various other governmental functions currently exercised by the Borough government including zoning authority for residential areas within Borough limits On November 15th 1922 – two days after President Warren G Harding's assassination – Mayor James J Rooney ordered that all uncollected borough taxes be collected immediately from residents living within borough borders without regard to their political affiliation or wealth because "the occasion called for unusual promptness". This marked perhaps one of the most dramatic changes ever seen in municipal relations within Allentown before or since its incorporation into a single municipality under our current form - an event that has been chronicled by historians throughout recent decades The following year saw another significant change when mayor Rooney decided to annex adjacent Bethlehem Township so as not to leave any open space within city limits available for development while simultaneously bringing much needed tax revenue into the coffers of town government through annexation hearings held every few months instead In 1933 Mayor Charles Trombley discontinued weekly public meetings scheduled monthly instead opting for quarterly meetings which remain prevalent today In 1951 Mayor Emanuel Iaconelli announced plans to build a new high school across from First Presbyterian Church with funds raised via a referendum approved by voters that year . The construction project originally planned to cost $22 million but only cost $10 million due largely to donations from local businesses led by civic leader Raymond Pecoraro . Incorporated as a borough on October 14th 1957 with plums as its nucleus - Plumm experienced rapid growth over both its early years with more than 4500 residents during 1960 Census bureau estimate although housing stock had not yet reached levels reached today

Plum was founded by James Post and his brother Daniel Post in 1785. The first factory there was built to produce flour for the American Revolution. In 1815, John Cavanaugh bought land in Plum and developed it into a town with a school and gristmill. In 1824, John Prentice platted Plum and named it after his sister-in-law Rachel Plummer who had married posthumously one of James Post's sons. In 1828, post office officials moved from their original location to what is now the Northside Drive address because of an increase in mail traffic from residents of nearby anthracite coal mines. By 1830, plum had two stores and three homes; it also had its own cemetery with more than 100 tombstones dating back to 1785. By 1840, plum had four stores and nine homes; it also boasted its own mill which ground corn for local consumption as well as exporting flour to other markets. The community continued to grow through the late 19th century until it reached its peak during World War I when it produced up to 60% of all America's supply of flour for military purposes due to its proximity to anthracite mines
