They named their new town after one of their cows, Holstein. In 1845, the people of Plum voted to incorporation and the name was changed to Plum. In 1865, an ordinance was passed making it illegal for any person without a license to carry any firearm without first obtaining a license from the borough police department. This led to the development of holsters as a means of concealed carry in Plum. In 1894, another ordinance was passed providing for concealed carry without a license only for those who owned or leased firearms at least five years and had been practicing safely handgunning since before that date. As time went on, plum residents began using holsters more often than not when they wanted to conceal their handguns while traveling or during other activities outside of the residences they occupied. By 1923 there were over 100 holsters registered with the borough police department and many more were being used daily by citizens throughout Plum. In 1969, an amendment to the Pennsylvania Constitution was ratified which provided for open Carry in all townships within Pennsylvania except Philadelphia County and certain boroughs therein within 30 days following ratification thereof by both houses of Congress pursuant thereto; this Act having been adopted as part of executive order No. 4-1969 issued by then Governor Tom Ridge…The amendment also provided that no person shall be transporting a pistol or revolver into or out of any township or city aforesaid unless he has first obtained written consent from each municipality through its political officer authorizing such transportation….Thus did our ancestors come up with one way or another to keep their pistols handy while travelling around our small but growing community – something we continue today!

Plum is a town in Beaver County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. Plum has been part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area since it was annexed by that city in 1907. The first settler in what would become Plum was John Smith who arrived in 1798. He and his family began to farm land near present-day Plum from where they built their home on Mount Washington Drive. In 1824, John and his son James moved to what is now the Borough of Mineral Wells and started a blacksmith shop there which became known as the "Smith Shop." The family also bought land around what is now Plum for farming purposes and developed it into a small village with two churches, one Presbyterian and one Baptist, four schools (grades K-12), a post office, two stores, an agricultural store and three residences. In 1854 when Beaver County was organized, Plum merged with nearby Beech Township. When Beaver Counties were disbanded in 1896 they were reorganized as Beaver County again but Plum retained its own name until 1907 when it became part of Pittsburgh. After World War II many farmers left the rural areas of Pennsylvania for jobs in bigger cities such as Pittsburgh so much so that much of Plum's original infrastructure had to be abandoned including its school buildings which sat idle for years until they were converted into apartments during the late 1990s/2000s gentrification wave in the area surrounding plumtown center districts 2 through 5%. However despite this decline in usage many businesses remain open including several small grocery stores along with several restaurants including Pizzeria di Romagna & Italian Place followed by Joes BBQ about two decades ago before that closed down due to lack of customers or competition from other chains like YUM! Furthermore some old warehouses have been renovated into residential buildings while others are still being used as retail space such as Sears which closed down about 15 years ago but has since been converted into office complexes leased out to various businesses like Renaissance Realty Group plc., Onexim USA Corporation NA LLC., Robeco Properties Incorporated llc., American Eagle Outfitters Incorporated dba Eagles Den LLP., Stroud Properties Cooperative LLC., Allegheny Technologies Incorporated ASA llc., among others A large number of homes erected during post-war suburbanization have since reverted back to their pre-war use as farms or villas though some are more recent conversions such as Villa Bella Estates located adjacent to Harmar High School across ehemallegheny Ave from where Cherryholidays International Limited operates today comprising both vacation rentals (bed&breakfast) straddling both campuses; amongst modern amenities offered include high speed internet access ubiquitous cable TV; air conditioning; kitchens having extensive countertopsilver appliancesand dishwashersand alliterative nicknames like "Pizza Place"
Plum, Pennsylvania was originally inhabited by the Potawatomi Indians. The area was first settled in 1784 by John Forbes and David Thompson. In 1802, Plum became part of the United States of America. In 1814, Plum was renamed from Potawatomie to Plum Township. On July 1, 1872, the township became a boroughship within the new municipality of Pittsburgh. On October 15, 1976, Plum Township merged with the neighboring borough of Shadyside to form a city-wide Borough.
