They started clearing land and planting potatoes and other crops. In 1827, the United States Post Office moved to Plum from nearby Greencastle because of its better postal service. The discovery of coal in Plum led to increased production and development of the community. Coal mine workers brought their families with them when they left work to live in Plum. As more mines were opened around Plum, many wives took care of their husbands' families while they worked in the mines; this created a close-knit community that continues today. Baptized by George Washington as "Washington Crossing," Plum was known as "Washington Township" until 1865 when it became "Montgomery Township." On February 15, 1889, it changed its name again to "Plum" after General John Forbes Plum (1792–1865), Commandant General of Canada during World War I and one of America's most distinguished military commanders during that conflict.. In 1928, following consolidation of all Montgomery County townships into one entity under the name "Montgomery Township", Plum annexed lands east of Ulysses S Grant Boulevard which made it one-tenth acre shy of joining Center City proper within Philadelphia city limits but still within Montgomery Township boundaries on both sides - an annexation often cited as one reason for heavy growth throughout much of what is now called Liberty University Park Campus since then just off US Route 20 between Cherry Hill Rd./Route 202/Route 24 & Ulysses S Grant Blvd., so large never really became plumspace until center city annexed lots expanding past 1 square mile... Today [Liberty University Park Campus] covers 3 square miles outsidecity limits!

Plum, Pennsylvania is a small town located in Pocono County, Pennsylvania. The population was 1,856 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous community in Pocono County and the second most populous municipality in Pennsylvania after Philadelphia. Plum has been inhabited by humans for over 10,000 years and has an active history that includes struggles against Native Americans, Prohibition and the American Civil War. The town was founded in 1792 by John Nicholson as a part of what would become known as "The Western Reserve." According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough had a total area of 0.8 square miles (2 km²), all of it land. Pocono County was formed on March 15th, 1802 when Pennsylvanian General James Stroud assigned parts of present-day Delaware Township to form what would be known as Pocono County. On July 1st 1810, part of Sussex Township also became part of Pocono County when it was merged with Sussex Township fromumberry 3 northern section including Carbondale and portions of Bethlehem Heights which were then organized into Carbondale Borough on February 17th 1811 under Act No 7 Of 1811 . In 1837 parts of present day Huntingdon Township were added to Pocono County making it 9 townships with a combined population of 362 people according to the US Census results for that year . In 1861 parts of Clinton Township were annexed to make up modern day Plum On October 9th 1860 during the American Civil War Battle of Plumsville near Easton there were around 100 militia men from Uniontown who fought against Confederate forces under General Robert Ewell who attempted to cross through Plum Creek on horseback but they ran into trouble because Confederate cavalry units pursuit them until late night before finally withdrawing back across Plum Creek without engaging any Union troops
