In 1757, John Forbes built a log cabin on the site that would become his home until his death in 1824. As agriculture became more important in Clearfield County during the late 1800s, many settlers began to move into Plum from neighboring counties such as Butler and Monongalia. One of these pioneers was James Witherspoon who settled here in 1823 with his family. Soon after, other families followed suit and by 1830 there were over sixty people living in Plumtownships. In 1847, two brothers named Abram and Michael Pfeffer bought acreage east of present-day Plumtownship for $5 per acre (#$/acre). They began to build an irrigation system to improve their property's agriculture prospects; this system still remains operative today. In 1861, Abram Pfeffer donated land adjacent to his farmstead for public use which became known as Agricultural Park #1 (later Agricultural Park #2). This park served as an open air market and playground from 1865 until 1923 when it was closed due to lack of funds. Since then it has been used as a private field complex where kids can play catch or ride horses through corn rows setting off explosions! On July 4th, 1907, local citizens erected a small wooden cross on top of what later became known as Park Hill Cemetery because they desired national recognition for their community effort spearheaded by Mayor J A Sargent (1887-1901) & Mrs C B Bechtel (1892-1900). The tree remained standing until 1949 when heavy rains caused water seepage beneath its base which collapsed resulting in significant damage & loss of history within minutes! Today only a few stones remain from the original cross structure... unmarked & unrecognizable! The following year saw another major event occur within our community when Mayor J A Sargent opened registration for voting privileges for residents OF THE AREA including those residing IN PARK HILL Cemetery!!! marking an Important milestone towardsdemocracy becoming reality within our Community!! contd

In 1846, a store opened up on High Street and soon became one of Plum's most important businesses. By 1870, there were ten schools in Plum with over 1,000 students enrolled. In 1918, General Motors moved its manufacturing plant from Flint Michigan to Pine Grove making it one of the biggest employers in town. Due to this growth and investment, many businesses closed or went out of business during World War II including two stores which closed down completely due to lack of customers during that time period. However, through hard work and innovative marketing techniques (one used Chevrolet advertising), Plum quickly recovered and regained its prosperity post-war years. Today, Plum is a vibrant community with healthy businesses and plenty going on for residents both young and old alike!
