These efforts culminated with Captain James Kincaid's purchase from Chief Wyandotte at McKees Rocks on November 12, 1795 for £4 sterling plus costs – making Kincaid captain general commanding British forces stationed along this stretch of borderland then under Spanish control. In 1800 John Stroud established an ironworks just north of downtown which became world-famous; Steel production began shortly thereafter%.
