During World War II, the Phoenixville Glass Works became part of Vacheron & Constantin's American arm. This allowed the company to produce precision optics for both military and civilian applications. After World War II, however, production slowed as new technologies emerged that made better binoculars more available. In 1972, Vacheron & Constantin merged with Swann Optical Company (now known as Swann Precision Optics). This gave rise to Swann's current parent company – Sperry Corporation – which continues to produce high-quality binoculars today.

Phoenixville is a town in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 11,819 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Allentown-Easton-Middletown, PA Micropolitan Statistical Area. Phoenixville is one of the older towns in Lehigh County and it has been around since 1798 when Patriot Major General George Washington's army stopped at the crossroads for supplies on their way to Battle of Princeton. The first post office in Phoenixville was established on March 12, 1800. The name “Phoenixville” came from Indian Chief Pipe Nose's home territory near present day Easton. The first settler in Phoenixville was Benjamin Fenton who arrived in 1798. He erected a log cabin called "Fenton's Farm" on what is now Main Street. In 1802 he built a frame house that still stands today known as the Old House on Elm Street. In 1812 Fenton sold his land to John Armstrong who named it "Armstrong Township." In 1814 James Pogue located a farmstead about two miles west of present day Phoenixville along what is now West Main Street and also founded Pogue Township which included parts of what are now Carbon Hill and University Park neighborhoods within its boundaries today. From this location Pogue surveyed many areas including most of what are now Carbon Hill and University Park neighborhoods within Phoenixvillers limits today back then!

The first store in town was built on Main Street in 1837 by John Waddell and his brother Samuel Waddell. In 1892, William Sweeny opened the first post office in Phoenixville. In 1952, when Brown County was created from part of Carnegie Mellon University's old campus north of Pittsburgh, Phoenixville became its official CDP site. The city of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania was founded in 1781 by George Washington and named for his home town of Mount Vernon. The area that now makes up Phoenixville was part of the Susquehanna County community of Westphalia. In 1812, Phoenixville became the seat of Susquehanna County and the first county seat in Pennsylvania. It continued to be a center for trade and industry until after World War II when its economy shifted to services and INFORMATION technology.
