Phoenixville is a small town in Carbon County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is the seat of Phoenixville Township. The population was 1,890 at the 2010 census. Ammunition production began in Phoenixville in 1827 and continued until the late 1800s. In 1903, ammunition production ended due to management changes at Smith & Wesson and American Metallic Cartridge Company, two of the largest ammunition companies in America at that time. The first shots fired from firearms were reported by men living near Newtown Square on October 14th, 1775; this event is considered an early massacre of Native Americans by colonial settlers. Ammunition production started around 1827 when two brothers named John and Amos Goodwin created American Metallic Cartridge Company out of their supplies of lead shot and powder discovered during their land purchase in western Pennsylvania. Ammunition production continued until 1892 when both companies merged into Winchester Repeating Arms Company Inc., one of the largest producers of firearms in history with over $500 million worth produced between 1901-2002 alone! The history of Phoenixville includes important milestones such as: -The establishment of Coal Mines #1 and #2 in 1916 -The construction of several churches including First Baptist Church (1892), Second Baptist Church (1901), Holy Cross Roman Catholic Parish School (1921), St. John's United Methodist Church (1935), and Christ Episcopal Cathedral (2002). -The attendance at local schools has steadily increased throughout its history; now over 82% citizens are either primary or lower secondary education graduates. -PhoenixVILLE has also been home to many professional athletes over the years including Hackettstown High School's football team which won three state championships between 1958-1964 and current head coach Joe Moorhead

Phoenixville became a borough in 1802 and then a village in 1814. The population of Phoenixville was 1,500 at its peak in 1870. In 1903, the boroughs of Phoenixville and Moon Township were merged into the new city of Allentown.
