Norristown is a city in Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 61,711 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in Allegheny County after Pittsburgh and fifth most populous in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The first permanent settlement in Norristown was made on December 12, 1755 by George Washington and his men when they left for Fort Duquesne after routing the French forces at Saratoga. The town was named for John Norristown, an early settler. In 1814, during the Mexican-American War, General Winfield Scott's army passed through Norristown en route to Gettysburg. On July 14, 1814, as part of larger Union force moving south from Harrisburg against Confederate general Robert E Lee's Army of Northern Virginia under General Ulysses S Grant, Norristown was burned by Confederate troops while supplies were being unloaded on boats on Lake Erie. In 1865, following the American Civil War, many factory workers migrated to provide jobs in Philadelphia and other cities due to new technology and industrialization; however some people continued to live in rural areas such as Dearborn Township until about 1920. By 1930 there were only a few hundred residents remaining inside what is now Norristown proper; however thousands had moved into nearby municipalities including Abington Township (now Abington), Monrovia Borough (now Monroe), South Monrovia Borough (now South Lebanon), Venango Township (now Venango), Butler Township (now Butler), Westmoreland Borough (now Westmoreland) and Northumberland Borough (now Northumberland). Along with many others throughout western Pennsylvania during this time period who lost their homes or businesses during the Great Depression – among them were many residents of Park Row which became known as "the neighborhood" – manyNorristOWNians returned to their homes during World War II when production resumed at Bethlehem Steel Company plants along I-80E outside of town after years of war-time disruption elsewhere in southeastern PA caused by bombings emanating from London. On September 9th 1950 local officials enacted a curfew that lasted until 6am for all night long dubbed "The Night Time Ghetto". This curfew helped reduce crime rates within Norristown which had been high before but also increased social tensions because Of black majority African Americans living adjacent to white majorities Irish/Catholic communities whose interactions frequently led to violence or property damage between these two groups often called "Mugging Time". Many people took advantage of this curfew setting so it would be difficult or impossible for police officers stationed around town during business hours to do their jobs effectively without fear for their lives; additionally it created vacancies that could not be filled because no one wanted another job that required living near schools where gangs roamed freely unsupervised especially given that open alcohol flowed freely throughout much of downtown Norristown preceding andduring prohibition era gangsters generally did not operate like this today despite still exhibiting some levels OF criminal activity although Gangster Disintegration has occurred overall over time

Norristown is a town in DuBois County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. Norristown was founded in 1795 by one of the original thirteen independent counties in Pennsylvania. In 1854 it became a city and retains its rural character today. The first settler in what would become Norristown was John Snyder who arrived from Northumberland County, England on October 10, 1795. He named his new home "Norrisstown" after his home country. At that time there were only about seventy-five people living in what is nowDuBois County. John Snyder's wife also came to live there and they had four children: Mary (born November 9th, 1796), Levi (born January 20th, 1800), Hannah (born January 24th, 1801) and Josephine (born February 14th1803). One of John Snyder's sons also served as a Captain in Company K2 Polish Legion during the American Revolution and died fighting for our cause! In 1814 over 1,000 acres were cleared for farming by three men from Lancaster County - George Washington Smith (the father of General George Washington Smith), Ebenezer Brown and Nicholas Swartz - which formed the nucleus of what would later be called Norristown Township. It wasn't until 1837 when Reverend Jonathan Edwards moved toANoristown from Lebanon and started preaching the gospel here that evangelism really began to take hold among these pioneer settlers hereabouts! Reverend Edwards' impact can be seen throughout this early period as he preached repentance leading to faith; readying people for salvation through Jesus Christ; teaching catechism; presiding over services at local churches; founding Sunday school classes; providing support systems like medical care etc.. One notable event which took place during this early era occurred on September 15th1837 when two steamboats made landfall on Beaver Lake just south of present day Norristown Village Tower! These boats belonged to Isaac Marion company operated by Samuel Gregg & David Gregg - both natives of Lancaster County - who transported goods across Beaver Lake between Point Breeze and Chambersburg on their way back upriver following an excursion down river sponsored by Governor Andrew Johnson! This venture marked an important moment in township history as it demonstrated how far removed then yet many pioneers felt from big city life! The arrival of passenger vessels such as these not only brought cheap transportation costs within reach but also helped promote development along riverfront areas due to trade opportunities created thereby stimulating economic growth throughout DuBois County!. Today we can still see some remnants of this earlier era with small shops located near Landing Bayou where passengers disembarked their boats upon reaching their destination
