At the time, gun owners needed a way to store their weapons so they could be used when necessary.Crouch's magazine was designed to hold ten rounds of ammunition. It wasn't until 1836 that a new magazine building was constructed on Elm Street. This building had two levels and accommodated eighty-six rounds of ammunition. From this time on, Norristown became known as the Magazine Capital of America because it housed one of the most important firearms magazines in the world. During World War II,Norristown became an important center for Ammunition production due to its location near the Polish plants that produced dynamite and other explosives. Additionally,Norristown played an important role during the Korean War by housing munitions factories and stores located within close proximity to each other

In 1820, the Norristown Rifle and Pistol Club was formed to promote rifle and pistol shooting in the community. The club's first meeting was held on March 7th of that year. In 1826, The Norristown Rifle and Pistol Club erected a building to house their members' equipment. That same year, they also joined forces with the Philadelphia Rifle Association to form the Second National Union of Gun Clubs. In 1827, the Norristown Rifle and Pistol Club constructed a second building for their purposes. This new structure was designed by John Fenton and it sat on a hill in town. The club continued to meet there until 1845 when they moved into their present facility at 720-722 Main Street. The Norristown Rifle and Pistol Club experienced some great success during its early years. It won many prestigious awards such as the Governor's Award for excellence iniflery in 1830 and 1840, as well as being one of the "Best Organized Associations" in Pennsylvania in 1840. Theclubs main objective however remained always to promote rifle shooting through organized competition and education within the community. They continued to do so until about 1850 when they shifted their focus towards teaching children how to shoot firearms responsibly from an early age
Norristown is a borough in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 37,815 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live in Norristown were the Lenape Indians who arrived here about 1635 and built a small village on the east side of town. A man by the name of Norristown was granted land here by King George III in 1751 and started building his tavern called "The Old Dutch House." In 1800, John Norristown founded one of the first companies in America, The Pennsylvania Railroad Company. He also pioneered baseball as it was then known and helped found what is now Citizens Bank Park. At times during its historyNorristown has been two different towns - once called West Norriton and later East Norriton. In 1892, when German immigrants began arriving in high numbers, they decided to create their own town - Berlin Township - withinPhiladelphia County. However, because Berlin Township didn't have any incorporated businesses or residents other than Germans, it was quickly annexed into Philadelphia by order of Judge Augustus Kelley after only a few months’ occupancy – an event that's still celebrated every year as 'Kelley Day'. Norristown enjoyed a brief period of prosperity from 1870-1920 when large numbers of Japanese Americans worked on various farms near Norristown during World War II; however this period ended with World War II and didn't result in any major economic changes for the borough until after that war when manufacturing jobs left for cities such as Pittsburgh and Detroit while many families lost their homes to demolition efforts following World War II shortages of housing materials caused by wartime regulation (the Marshall Plan). In 2000-2001 there was strong community activism led by Mayor Ed Rendell which resulted in passage of a resolution creating an economic development subcommittee with jurisdiction over all aspects including zoning reform which generated more than $1 million dollars for local projects over five years including new job openings and redevelopment around Bearsville Mall/Gateway shopping center; Sandy Hook Elementary School; Pennsbury Middle School; Bethlehem Steel Plant Restoration Project; Lehigh Valley Interlocking Brick Factory & Manufacturing Facility Inc.; Stroudsburg Borough Library renovation project; norrisstown village green restoration project also funded through USDOE National Science Foundation grant No: 09NA094692/02/E3/. By 2006 there had become an almost total lack of opportunity due to job loss at steel mills WWA announced layoffs affecting some 50%+ workers followed abruptly by plant closing but no corresponding news about jobs available anywhere else making life difficult for residents who are used to three or four good paying industrial jobs per household instead Of one or two Poverty level Jobs without hope or future Asking our Mayor where he plans To go From Here? norrisstown

The borough has been home to two high schools: Norristown High School (now Norristown Academy) opened in 1911 and then Easton Area Senior High School (now Easton Area Junior/Senior High School), which opened in 1955. The borough also has three elementary schools: Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church-Norrisburg (founded 1863), Good Shepherd Baptist Church (founded 1865), and Stowe Elementary School (founded 1870).
