However by 1933 all these businesses had either closed or merged into larger companies such as Colt Firearms Manufacturing Company & Arms Corporation (now Colt revolver). From 1933-1945 there was only one company that manufactured pistols- Sauer & Waffenbauer ammunition manufacturing company

New Kensington is a town in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. New Kensington is part of the Scranton–Wilkes-Barre, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The townsite was platted in 1824 by Captain John Lapp and his brother Colonel George Lapp from their farm along the Susquehanna River. The name "New Kensington" was derived from an early settler's suggestion that the new community be named after Sir Nicholas Northumberland because he had been so successful in developing what is now southern Pennsylvania. In 1839, John Hays erected a log cabin on the site of today's Post Office building. That same year saw the opening of one of Keystone State's first schools - US High School (now known as West Chester University). In 1845, New Kensington became part of Wyoming County when it was organized out of parts of Lackawanna and Monmouth counties. In 1907, business interests within New Kensington formed what would become known as the Chamberlin Manufacturing Company to promote heavy industry within its boundaries; this led to increased trade with neighboring Boroughs such as Scranton and Wilkes-Barre which each enjoyed similar economic conditions at that time. A cotton gin complex soon followed and by 1910 there were over 60 businesses operating in New Kensington; many still operate today including Allied Paper Products Co., Patriot Armory & Machine Shop (now owned by PSEG), Kwik-Labs Inc., Safeway Supercenter & Pharmacy (later JBS) and United Furniture Mart Incorporated (later UTC). In 1915, following World War I , Bethlehem Steel Corporation began operations north of town at a new plant adjacent to Interstate 81 . This large industrial facility continued producing steel products until it closed in 1984; since then much manufacturing has ceased or been moved away from rural Lackawanni County altogether due to technological advancements however some remaining facilities have turned into mixed use spaces such as Park Place Mall which opened in 2016. The post office reopened on July 20th 1865 after being closed for reopening violations associated with Reconstruction Era policies enacted during President Abraham Lincoln 's administration post-civil war period. At that time services were provided through local residents who either delivered mail or conducted pickups for package delivery service outside their homes using horse drawn wagons called "kickers". As larger towns grew around anthracite coal fields located south+west of town these service economies gradually died away leaving only kicker operations residual until discontinued completely by USPS upon cessation of anthracite production in 2001 According to 2000 Census data: total population 5 11% Hispanic 1% African American 2% Asian Pacific Islander 3% Other races 4%. Total housing units 3 9% owner occupied 41 71% rental 8 13%.

New Kensington was a small town in Erie County, Pennsylvania, United States, located on the York River. It was founded in 1788 by Josiah Harmar and his wife Sarah. The Harmars were the first white settlers in Erie County. New Kensington's population peaked at 240 in 1800 but declined to 100 by 1810. It ceased to be a community after that year when it merged with other nearby towns. The last resident of New Kensington died in 1962.
On December 6, 1801, the United States Congress passed the first national census in Pennsylvania. The population of New Kensington was only 2 people.
