In 1813, General Edward Porter ordered the evacuation of all British forces from the area and began construction on what is now known as Fort George. As part of this project, Porter ordered the construction of a large warehouse called “New Castle Warehouse”. This warehouse would serve as both a storage facility for munitions and also as a place where soldiers could eat and drink while waiting for their next assignment. In 1834, General James Saxton built another fort named Fort Mifflin in order to protect Philadelphia from Indian attack. After Fort Mifflin was destroyed by an Indian raid in 1838, General John Forbes decided to demolish all three of Porter’s warehouses in order to make way for his new fortress. However, due to budget constraints, Forbes only demolished one of Porter’s warehouses – “New Castle Warehouse”. In 1847, President James Kossuth appointed Colonel Augustus Stroud commander of Ulysses S Grant’s army during the Mexican-American War. At this time, New Castle became part of Grant’s army and its citizens were forced to evacuate their homes due to hostilities between America and Mexico. It wasn’t until after American troops had abandoned New castle that locals were able to return home and begin rebuilding their lives again. Today, New Castle is considered an important cultural center within Pennsylvania because it has been home to several prominent historical figures including: George Washington Carver; Benjamin Franklin; Nathanael Greene; Thomas Edison; and John F Kennedy (1). New Castle is a town in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 9,912 at the 2010 census. New Castle is located on the southern border of Philadelphia and is bordered by Huntingdon Township to the north, Downingtown to the east, South Street to the south, and Swissvale to the west. The first European settlers in what is now Delaware County were Dutch farmers who arrived in 1665. In 1718 they founded a small village called Westville on an island in Callender Creek. That same year, they built a sawmill on nearby White Sands Creek. They also established a gristmill and a corn mill around this time. By 1724 all these mills had been destroyed by fire or natural disaster. In 1727 John Armstrong moved his family from Holland to what is now Delaware County and started new life with his brother William's purchase of 3 acres (1 km²) of land hereabouts for £10 sterling ($16 US). This became Armstrong Township which was named after him and his brother-in-law Benjamin Franklin. New Castle township was organized on February 14, 1811 from parts of Armstrong Township and York Township due to growing population levels in those areas; it included present day Bethlehem Borough as well as some unincorporated areas including Prospect Hill before becoming an official borough on July 1st of that year under charter granted by James Buchanan Sr., then President of the United States as part of Treaty No 2 between America/Spain & Great Britain/France following their victory over France at Quebec City during the Seven Years' War (1754-1763). In 1835 New Castle lost its status as borough when it merged with Downingtown into one enlarged city government under Mayor Robert Manninghams along with other townships within Philadelphia's city limits; however it regained its independent status again upon merger back into Philadelphia's municipal government effective January 1st 1957 pursuant to an act passed by then Mayor Robert Fenton Jr.; however it has not returned fully underPhiladelphia Municipal Authority jurisdiction since then due largely to financial limitations caused by suburban growth withinPhiladelphia itself rather than any realignment or improvement resulting from that increase in population density withinNewCastle itself

New Castle is a town in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. New Castle's history begins with the founding of the village of West Ferry in 1795 by members of the Dutch colony of New Netherland and their British conqueror, General George Washington. In 1801, it became a borough in what is now Delaware County. On July 1, 1901, it became independent as a city and has since grown to become one of the most populous cities in Pennsylvania and one of its leading commercial and cultural centers. The first permanent settler in what would become New Castle was John Ferguson who arrived there from Maryland on May 10th, 1798 with his family. He built a log cabin on what is now North Main Street and named it "Ferguson's Ford". In 1800 he married Susannah Miller who had also come over from Maryland that year. They had two children - John Ferguson Jr., born December 29th 1800; Sarah Ferguson born December 3rd 1802). On October 12th 1803 they erected a small frame house on present-day Front Street which they called "Ferguson's Tavern". Their second home was situated on an overlook near where Market Street ends today (just west of Borough Hall). By 1805 they had built another frame house on current-day Mulberry Street which served as their primary residence until their final purchase/occupation of this property in 1827 (known as "The Mansion"). The estate continued to be used for various purposes until sold to Mayor Thomas McNulty in 1893. In addition to its importance as an agricultural center due to its fertile soil and well-drained streetscape etc., New Castle also developed into a major industrial center during the late 19th century thanks largely to its production of flour, tobacco products, paper products etc.. This included such companies as Bethlehem Steel Company (founded 1865), US Paper Manufacturing Company (1892), Union Paper Company (1895), American Tobacco Corporation (1914) among others. During World War I efforts were made by New Castle Industries Incorporated to produce munitions for the war effort but despite initial success these efforts failed due largely to heavy resistance from local farmers who felt that any investment outside their own backyard would do more harm than good. However following World War II industry recommenced but again failed because many people found work outside metropolitan Philadelphia while those within metropolitan Philly lost outjobs or simply left town altogether after experiencing advances technology or other opportunities elsewhere within Greater Philadelphia or even beyond our borders – making sure that when America won her first world war against all odds nearly seventy years later much like earlier settlers hereabouts sacrificed everything not just blood but substance too including homespun values & hard work ethic essential if we are ever goingRECONCILIATE WITH THE WORLD
