New Castle is a city in and the county seat of Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. According to the 2010 Census, New Castle has a total area of , of which (or 98.8%) is land and (or 1.2%) is water. As of the census 2000, there were 702 people, 248 households, and 172 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,694.4 people per square mile (636.5/km²). There were 269 housing units at an average density of 647.7 per square mile (247.9/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 97% White, 0% African American, 0% Native American, and 2% Asian Pacific Islander

New Castle was founded by George Washington in 1751 as a small trading post on the Susquehanna River. It became the capital of Pennsylvania in 1787, and served as the presidential city from 1800 to 1801. The town was destroyed by a fire in 1837, but was rebuilt and renamed New Carlisle after its founder. In 1907, it was merged with nearby Altoona to form the new city of Altoona. New Carlisle is now an inner-city neighborhood that is home to many businesses and restaurants.
New Castle was founded in 1685 by John Armstrong and his brothers. It became a borough in 1792. The population of New Castle increased to 100,000 by 1835. In 1868, the town was annexed by Philadelphia.
