In 1951, The Electro-Optical Company merged with two other companies to form Owens Corning Corporation. Nanticoke is a town in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,876 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The community was founded by Captain John Nanticoke in 1795 as a trading post on the Monongahela River. The first permanent settler in Nanticoke was Nicholas Kapp and his family who arrived on July 5, 1795 from Stonington, Connecticut. The Kapp's were pioneer farmers and their farmstead became one of the most important agricultural villages in Butler County until it closed its doors to residents in 1945. Captain John Nanticoke donated land to build a settlement here after he discovered that Father James White had built a fort at what is now known as Fort Pitt on the Monongahela River for British colonists during the French and Indian War (1754-63). After landing his troops at what is now called Nanticoke Landing on October 10, 1795 they began erecting log cabins and tenders which served as their temporary headquarters while they awaited news of reinforcements that could arrive from Pittsburgh. The original settlers were Sir William Irvine and his family who arrived in December 1800; Captain George Washington Irving brought with him his own wife Rachel Wood Stockbridge Irving (baptized December 12th, 1774 – died February 7th 1836) who would become one of America’s most famous authors; Timothy Pickering; Drury Leland Dodge; Nathaniel Lyon Jr.; Abraham Lincoln’s grandfather Abraham Lincoln Sr.; Samuel Morse Sr.; Ebenezer Morse; Israel Putnam; John Dickinson Dormanell entered into partnership with Captain George Washington Irving to start building homes here including two-story frame buildings with corrugated metal roofs that still stand today including “Dickinson House” (now known as “Olde Hickory House”), located between Third Street east of Market Avenue and Fourth Street west of Market Avenue where Mrs. Dormanell lived for many years before being demolished to make way for I-680 which passed under her home path when it was widened in the early 1960s In 1824 Captain John Nicholson established himself here with twelve families after purchasing 640 acres (2 km²) off Section 8 north of present day Main Street from Colonel Isaac Page which included all or parts of: Northumberland Township line southward to section line then due east along said section line thence northeasterly four hundred rods to point formerly occupied by Pennsylania Company mill see map annexed p5 same page also On account thereof erected a house & set up shop there & continued till 1830 Capt Nicholson among others being responsible for erection thenceforward Of course every thing hereafter done herein without prior written consent or order from any person holding any place therein shall be considered illegal & subject accordingly To Punishment hereby promised

Pershing who fought during World War I as an American general and later served as commissioner of immigration and naturalization in America The first settler in what is now Nanticoke Township was Washington himself with his son George on November 8, 1755. They came from Mount Vernon and were looking for land that would be available for farming after their father's death some time earlier. The Washingtons established themselves on a farm called "Penny Woods". There are various stories about where this particular farm ended up but one version has it that they sold it to Colonel Nicholas Wright who moved it to Bellefonte where he built a home known as Wright's Tavern which still stands today."
